University Lecturer in Neurovascular Malformation Biology
Description
Neurovascular malformation biology, and how such malformations are affected by inflammation and coagulation, involves studies of material from humans, mouse models, and advanced human cell culture models. It is known that malformations arise as a result of certain hereditary or spontaneous mutations in endothelial cells. The malformation can rupture and bleed into the brain, causing acute neurological symptoms with disability and, in rare cases, life-threatening conditions as a consequence. The research is focused on understanding how the mutations lay the foundation for the malformation, stabilizing the malformations that have already been established, and preventing the emergence of new ones.
Job Duties
The position includes research, teaching at the undergraduate and advanced levels, and administration. Teaching responsibilities include course coordination, course administration, and supervision of doctoral students. The incumbent is expected to conduct and publish internationally competitive research within the field of cerebrovascular malformations and to obtain external funding for this research. The duties also include following developments within the own subject area and broader societal developments that are relevant to work at the university.
Qualifications
Eligible for appointment as a university lecturer is someone who has demonstrated pedagogical skill and has obtained a doctoral degree or has equivalent scientific competence. (Chapter 4, Section 4 of the Higher Education Act). According to Section 5 of the Employment Regulations for Uppsala University (AO), the general eligibility requirement for teachers is that the applicant must have the ability to cooperate and otherwise meet the requirements of suitability needed to perform the duties of the position well.
Selection Criteria
In the selection among eligible applicants, emphasis will be placed primarily on scientific skill and subsequently on pedagogical skill. In assessing scientific skill, particular weight will be given to experience of studies on cerebrovascular malformations in humans, as well as experience with organoid models, transcriptomic and proteomic mapping, and high-resolution microscopy. Weight will also be given to experience and knowledge of inflammation and coagulation, and how they can contribute to disease progression.
