About Tuppkärrsskolan
Tuppkärrsskolan is a development-oriented and pleasant school located in Surahammar, consisting of primary school for grades 4–6 with approximately 300 students. The teachers at Tuppkärrsskolan work as subject teachers and are organized in working groups per grade. The teacher qualifications are high at the school, and everyone works to ensure students reach their goals as far as possible based on individual ability. The school has common theme days and traditions, and to ensure the entire school operations collaborate around goals and development, all schools in the municipality hold regular subject meetings.

Job Responsibilities
We are looking for a school counselor for Tuppkärrsskolan, a middle school (grades 4–6) located in central Surahammar. Currently, a new school is being built, so in a couple of years, the entire operation will move into completely new, beautiful premises. Approximately 300 students attend the school, including a special education group, and the school counselor works 100% on-site. The position is a vacation coverage position, meaning you work during school holidays and take vacation when the operation allows.
As a school counselor, you will become part of Surahammar's school counselor group, which meets once a week as well as at external supervision sessions. The counselor group is responsible for planning, implementing, and following up on the psychosocial preventive and promoting work in the municipality. We use evidence-based materials and build a health-promoting red thread for all students throughout their years in Surahammar's primary school.
The school counselor also participates in the Safety Team and Student Health Team at each school in collaboration with principals, special education teachers, school nurses, and social pedagogues. An important part is also external collaboration with social services, police, leisure activities, the church, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS), and Child and Adolescent Health Services. Naturally, there is also much collaboration with teachers and other staff at the school as well as the school social team.
As a school counselor, you work at the individual, group, and organizational levels. Individual conversations with students are a large part of the role and often involve contact with guardians. Sometimes the school counselor leads different student groups to develop social skills or create safety. Preventive work takes place in the classrooms where you meet all students. The school counselor is also out with students during recess to create safety and good relationships. Occasionally, the school counselor may also give lectures or supervise staff within the psychosocial area. The school counselor documents their work in Prorenata.
Qualifications and Merits
We are looking for a person with a degree in social work (socionom) or a behavioral science degree from a university or college. You should have experience working with children and young people, preferably within social services. If you have worked as a school counselor or in school in other ways, this is highly meritorious.
The person we are looking for is positive, social, and confident in themselves and their professional role. Since the work is varied, you should be flexible and solution-focused. You are responsible and have the ability to take initiative to resolve situations. You need to be good at building good relationships and trust with both children and adults, as well as communicating well in speech and writing. The school counselor needs to thrive working both independently and in various teams. It is meritorious if you have further education in counseling support or examples such as MI, CBT, or TMO. It is also meritorious if you have experience working with students with various difficulties within NPD (Neurodevelopmental Disorders) or students with absence issues.
