The County Administrative Board has a broad range of activities and plays a very important role in several areas of society. The County Administrative Board is a regional state authority with approximately 1,000 pleasant and competent employees. We have operations in several locations in Västra Götaland, as well as elsewhere in Sweden, as we are responsible for the IT operations for all County Administrative Boards.

About the Job

Do you want to make a difference for nature and the environment? Do you thrive in a varied job where you work independently on analyses and decisions while collaborating closely with colleagues and external actors? Then you might be our new Nature and Water Case Officer!

As a Nature and Water Case Officer, you work with permitting, supervision, and advisory services according to Chapters 7 and 11 of the Environmental Code.

In this role, you handle cases from application to decision. The tasks include, among other things:

• preparing and deciding on applications for exemptions, permits, and supervision matters,
• reviewing and analyzing incoming documents,
• assessing nature values using digital mapping tools and other data,
• conducting field visits,
• presenting and discussing cases at internal and external meetings,
• writing decisions, statements, and other authority documents,
• providing advice and guidance to municipalities, companies, organizations, and the public.

You contribute to the unit's development work by participating in the improvement of working methods, processes, and competencies. Since we work cross-sectorally, you collaborate regularly with colleagues in other operational areas, particularly regarding nature, environmental, and urban planning issues.

We are constantly developing our operations, which means that job duties may change over time.

About Us

The Unit for Nature and Water Matters works for the sustainable use of the county's water and natural resources, as well as for protecting nature and water environments for future generations. We achieve this through advisory services, supervision, and permitting according to the Environmental Code.

Here, you will work with issues that are of great importance to society and the environment. The work is varied and combines authority exercises, field work, collaboration, and development work.

Location: Gothenburg, Vänersborg, or Mariestad.

Travel within the county occurs. We use public transport or rental cars for work-related travel. We offer flexible working hours and some possibility to work remotely if the operations allow.

About You

To thrive and succeed in the role, you need to be able to work independently while appreciating collaboration and knowledge sharing with colleagues.

As a person, you are structured and plan your work in a way that creates good quality and efficiency. You communicate clearly in speech and writing and have an easy time adapting your message to different target groups. It is important that you have a good attitude, focus on service, and contribute to a positive work climate.

We also look for someone who has a good ability to see the big picture and contribute to solutions that are long-term sustainable for the operations.

We place great emphasis on personal qualities and assume that you share and act according to the Swedish Government's Values.

You have:

• a relevant university degree, for example as a biologist, hydrologist, geoscientist, environmental scientist, civil engineer, or other education that the employer considers equivalent,
• experience in working with consultations, environmental permitting, and/or environmental supervision,
• good IT skills and the ability to use digital support systems in your work,
• good ability to express yourself in Swedish in speech and writing.
• a driver's license for passenger cars (Category B)

We would like you to have:

• experience in processing water and/or nature conservation cases
• experience or knowledge regarding wetlands, restoration of water environments, or similar nature conservation work
• experience as an environmental and health inspector or other relevant authority exercise within the public sector.
