The Legal Secretariat of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs is responsible for legal advice to the political leadership, the Ministry's other units, and to Sweden's overseas authorities. The Legal Secretariat is also responsible for preparing and reviewing legislative proposals as well as for the preparation of certain administrative cases. The unit supports the Legal Director, who is the head of the Legal Secretariat, in the work of developing the legal support in the Ministry and participating in the legal quality assurance of the Ministry's work. The work requires broad legal knowledge. The work will be varied and independent while also involving a lot of collaboration with others, both within and outside the Government Offices.
The Legal Secretariat has approximately 20 employees. Most are lawyers working in two groups. You will work in the group that mainly consists of legal experts responsible for legislative work and legal advice within the entire area of operation of the Swedish Foreign Service. The unit's other group is responsible for issues concerning public access and confidentiality.
Your background
We are looking for you who are a Court of Appeal or Administrative Court assessor or have experience of qualified legal work that we assess as equivalent. You need to have very good legal knowledge. Experience of qualified legal work within the Government Offices, especially the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, is meritorious. Experience from another state authority can also be meritorious.

You are a skilled lawyer and a quality- and result-oriented person who thrives on driving processes forward. You have good judgment and high integrity and can work independently towards set goals, sometimes under tight deadlines. Flexibility and the ability to quickly change focus are needed in our operations. You also need to be able to collaborate well with people at all levels and with different professional categories. You are constructive and pedagogical. Your language management and stylistic ability are very good. We would like you to have an interest in issues within the Ministry for Foreign Affairs' area of responsibility. We place great importance on personal suitability.
Other
The vacancy concerns one or more appointments as a legal expert for up to six years, or alternatively a permanent appointment starting with a six-month probationary period for those who are not on leave from the judiciary. Start date as soon as possible or by agreement. The position is classified in a security class and a security investigation with register check will be carried out before a decision on employment is made. You must be a Swedish citizen, but may have a foreign background. The workplace is primarily in Stockholm, but there may also be opportunities for remote work with regular trips to the office in Stockholm.
