What we offer

Tösse School is a primary school (grades F-6) with approximately 120 students, located about 10 km from Åmål town center. The school operates in newly renovated and partially new buildings that provide excellent conditions for pedagogical activities. The schoolyard is large and invites play and creativity with nature close at hand. As staff at Tösse School, you will be part of an engaged team working together for the benefit of the students.

We are now looking for a special needs teacher for the school as one of our two special needs teachers is retiring.

Your role

As a special needs teacher, you work closely with both students and colleagues to create accessible and inclusive learning environments. You play a central role in the school's work to support students' knowledge development and well-being. We see our collaboration at the school as one of our greatest strengths; we view all students as our students, which means that our assignments are flexible and responsive to the needs of the operations.

Your role includes creating a safe and inspiring learning environment where all students feel seen and respected. You work to ensure that every student develops their full potential by supporting their path towards achieving goals as well as their development into democratic citizens. You build positive and sustainable relationships by creating a safe and open atmosphere where students feel respected and heard. Through active listening, providing feedback, and being a clear adult role model, you contribute to strengthening students' self-esteem and their ability to collaborate and communicate with each other. You promote goal achievement and development for all students by ensuring that teaching is adapted to students' different needs and conditions and that they receive the help and support they need to reach the knowledge goals specified in the curriculum. By using varied teaching methods, clear goal orientation, and formative assessment, you ensure that students not only reach their goals but also develop an understanding of their own learning and how it can be improved. You are an active part in preventing and handling conflicts and problems in and outside the classroom by encouraging collaboration, empathy, and responsibility. You support students in developing their social skills and ability to handle both successes and setbacks in a constructive way. You collaborate with colleagues to create a consistent thread in teaching and for equal assessment and instruction. You communicate regularly with parents and guardians to ensure that students' needs are considered and that there is a common understanding of how students' learning can be promoted both in and outside of school.

The role includes:

  • Planning, implementing, and following up on special pedagogical interventions for students in need of special support, both individually and in small or large groups.
  • Working flexibly in different teaching forms, where you alternate between targeted interventions, classroom support, and whole-class teaching based on the needs of the operation.
  • Collaborating with teachers, student health services, and school management to develop teaching and create accessible learning environments for all students.
  • Conducting mapping and analyses of students' needs and contributing to the establishment and follow-up of action plans.
  • Mentoring and supporting colleagues in their work with students. E.g., by preparing materials or visual aids.
  • Contributing to the school's development work with a focus on attendance, inclusive working methods, and early interventions.

Who are you

As a special needs teacher in lower and middle school, you meet students of varying ages and maturity. We are looking for you who are a good relationship builder with great patience and flexibility. To meet the students' needs, you must be able to make adjustments and handle unexpected situations.

You are a certified special needs teacher in either Swedish or Mathematics but can help students in both subjects as well as English.

In the classroom, you offer a calm teaching environment with clear structure where everyone knows what is expected of them. You plan and follow up on your teaching in the systems the school offers. You are confident in your role as a leader in the classroom and are engaged. As an employee, you collaborate with colleagues, school management, and student health services for the benefit of all students.

In Åmål Municipality, we are working on a large development project within language and knowledge-developing working methods that will permeate our competence development during the coming school year. All educators participate in the project, and we would like you, if hired, to have a great interest in working with a language and competence-developing approach.

Formal competence requirements

  • Certified special needs teacher in subjects
  • Good knowledge of Swedish in speech and writing
  • The employment assumes that you have a B driving license
  • Digital identification with BankID

Meritorious

Experience from working as a teacher is meritorious.

The Employment

Permanent position at 100% with start date 2026-08-12 or according to agreement. The employment may be initiated with a probationary period. The position of special needs teacher is currently located at Tösse School within the Culture and Education Administration, the nearest manager is Principal Lena Andrén-Persson.

The position will be filled subject to necessary decisions being made.
