The Department of Conservation offers professional preparatory education and research focusing on cultural heritage issues, landscapes and cultural environments, buildings, gardens, and objects. The department operates in two locations: Gothenburg and Mariestad. In Gothenburg, conservators and built environment antiquarians are trained. Job Responsibilities
The teaching duties consist of planning, developing, and implementing teaching at undergraduate and advanced levels within conservation, with a special focus on organic materials and preventive conservation on the Conservator program. Teaching at the doctoral level as well as commissioned courses may also occur, as well as teaching on other programs and courses at the department. Teaching is conducted in both Swedish and English.
As a teacher, you are expected to actively participate in the department's research environments and seminar activities, and to initiate and conduct research projects both independently and in collaboration with others. Since externally funded research is an important prerequisite for the department's and individual teachers' research activities, the job responsibilities include actively participating in the department's work to find external funding. You are expected to contribute to developing collaboration with the surrounding national and international community and to contribute to the development of the environment.
The employment also entails performing administrative tasks and participating in work related to university-wide assignments.
Qualifications
Eligible for employment is someone who has completed a doctoral degree in conservation, or another relevant subject area that is significant with regard to the subject content of the employment and the tasks included in the employment, and has demonstrated pedagogical skill.
Experience in practical conservation work on objects made of various materials and/or preventive conservation is considered meritorious.
Applicants must have completed higher education pedagogy training of 15 higher education credits or equivalent. If the applicant has not completed higher education pedagogy training, it is expected to be completed one year from the start of employment.
The official language at Gothenburg University is Swedish, and teaching is usually conducted in Swedish at the bachelor's level and in English at the master's level. Good language skills and the ability to teach in English are required. Applicants who do not speak Swedish at the time of employment are given the opportunity to study Swedish during employment to be able to teach in Swedish within two years.
If the person employed is internationally recruited and does not possess knowledge of Swedish at least at level B2 according to CEFR, Swedish language courses will be mandatory. Gothenburg University offers courses in Swedish within the framework of employment.
Evaluation Criteria
In the assessment of applicants, equal weight will be given to scientific and pedagogical skill. Weight will also be placed on experience of professional conservation practice as well as experience of collaboration between the university and the surrounding society.
When assessing scientific skill, publications of high scientific quality should primarily be considered. In addition, documented ability to initiate, plan, and conduct research, experience of international work, and the ability to obtain research funding in competition should be given weight.
Pedagogical skill should be well documented. Special weight should be placed on experience of planning and implementing teaching. Supervision at undergraduate, advanced, and doctoral levels is meritorious.
Professional practice and experience of collaboration should be well documented.
