About the Swedish Ballet School

A national comprehensive school with a pre-professional elite dance education

The Swedish Ballet School is a comprehensive school with national intake for grades 4–9, under the Comprehensive School Administration of the City of Gothenburg. Students come from all over West Sweden to train in classical ballet and contemporary modern dance, while simultaneously completing the mandatory subjects of the comprehensive school curriculum.

In addition to the mandatory subjects such as mathematics, Swedish, and English, the schedule includes classical ballet, contemporary modern dance, Pilates, strength training, acrobatics, scenic folk dance, jazz and street dance, as well as drama.

The school collaborates with professional and international dancers, educators, and choreographers, as well as with the Gothenburg Opera and the Royal Opera, to provide students with the skills required to pursue dance as a profession. Several times a year, the school stages performances at various theaters and tours within the region.

The Position

This is a fixed-term position covering the period from October 2026 to June 2027, or as agreed. The position is part-time, approximately 75%, or as agreed. The working hours are primarily Tuesday through Saturday.

Interviews are conducted on a rolling basis. A practical work sample may be included as part of the recruitment process.

Responsibilities

We are looking for an acrobatics teacher for dance students aged 10–16.

As an acrobatics and dance teacher, you will lead acrobatics lessons for dance students in grades 4–9 who are training in classical ballet and contemporary modern dance. During their dance education, students will learn gymnastic elements such as forward rolls, cartwheels, handstands, and front handsprings—both with apparatus and on the floor—aligned with the Swedish National Agency for Education’s curriculum for dance within the dance program. As a coach, you are responsible for planning, implementation, and half-year progress checks for each student, as well as setting up and taking down equipment.

As an acrobatics teacher, you will become part of the school’s dance health team and work alongside other professionals to create a safe, sustainable, and health-promoting educational environment for our students. Dance instruction is also part of the role.

Other duties may include assisting with school trips and stage performances, supervising dance students, and other related tasks.

This role as an acrobatics teacher is ideal for someone who loves gymnastics and enjoys working with children and young people.

Qualifications

We are looking for you who have experience as a coach or assistant coach, or similar, for gymnasts within group gymnastics, artistic gymnastics, or similar disciplines.

It is meritorious if you have experience or education in areas such as injury prevention training, mental health, nutrition, or other health-promoting work for children and young people.

Since you will be working with children aged 10–16 in this role, it is meritorious if you have previous experience working with this target group and if you have experience working towards students achieving specific goals.

As the position involves lifting heavy items when setting up and taking down gymnastics equipment and stage materials, as well as transportation using a minibus or light transport vehicle, a B-class driver’s license is meritorious.
