Workplace Description
Research within the interdisciplinary field of medical radiation physics is conducted at the Research Group for Medical Radiation Physics, Department of Translational Medicine, Malmö. The research group is located at Skåne University Hospital (SUS) in Malmö, within the Diagnostic Centre, and is led by Professor Lars E. Olsson. Together with Diagnostic Radiology, the group operates under the joint name Lund University breast Cancer Imaging group (LUCI), driving numerous research projects in breast cancer diagnostics with a special focus on screening and artificial intelligence. Tasks and Responsibilities
The primary task of the doctoral student is to undertake independent doctoral studies. Therefore, you will be both admitted as a student and employed by Lund University. Your duties will involve conducting research studies, which includes participating in research projects and attending mandatory courses within the framework of the education. Within the research projects, you will plan projects, collect data, analyze results, perform statistical tests, and present your findings in scientific articles and at conferences.
Qualifications
Basic eligibility for graduate studies is held by those who have:
- completed an advanced level degree,
- fulfilled course requirements of at least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 credits must be at an advanced level, or
- acquired substantially equivalent knowledge in some other way, within or outside the country.
The requirements for special eligibility are met by those who have:
- at least 60 higher education credits within the subject area of graduate studies,
- knowledge equivalent to at least a 3-year upper secondary school competency in English.
Specific Requirements for the Position
- A Master's degree in hospital physics (medical radiation physics), biomedical engineering, or a similar degree.

- Good proficiency in oral and written communication in English.
- Strong communication, presentation, and writing skills.
Merits for the Position
- Experience working with radiological diagnostics, particularly in mammography (e.g., a thesis within the field).
Evaluation and Selection
In accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance, the selection should primarily be based on an assessment of the applicants' ability to benefit from the education. In admissions, it is primarily the applicant's merits from the basic education that are normally assessed. In this regard, breadth, depth, and relevance, as well as elements of independent work, should be considered.
Terms of Employment
Fixed-term employment for four years according to the Higher Education Ordinance, Chapter 5, Section 7. As a doctoral student at Lund University, you are both admitted as a student and employed.
The employment is a fixed-term position totaling four years, 100%, with a tentative start date of July 1, 2026, or as agreed. The main rule is that employment at Lund University takes place in Sweden; therefore, you are expected to be able to perform your work on-site in Malmö.
