Workplace Description

Research is conducted within the interdisciplinary field of medical radiation physics at the Research Group in Medical Radiation Physics, Department of Translational Medicine, Malmö. The research group is located at Skåne University Hospital (SUS) in Malmö, in the Diagnostic Centre, and is led by Professor Lars E. Olsson. Together with Diagnostic Radiology, the group operates under the joint name Lund University breast Cancer Imaging group (LUCI), driving numerous research projects in breast cancer diagnostics with a special focus on screening and artificial intelligence. Responsibilities

The primary responsibility of the doctoral student is to pursue independent doctoral studies. Therefore, you will be both admitted as a student and employed by Lund University. Your task is to conduct research studies, which includes participating in research projects and mandatory courses within the framework of the education. Within the research projects, you will plan projects, collect data, analyze results, perform statistical tests, and present your results in scientific articles and at conferences.

Qualifications

Basic eligibility for higher education at the doctoral level is held by those who have:

  • completed an advanced level degree,
  • fulfilled course requirements of at least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 higher education credits at an advanced level, or
  • acquired substantially equivalent knowledge in some other way, within or outside the country.

The requirements for special eligibility are met by those who have:

  • at least 60 higher education credits in the subject area for higher education at the doctoral level,
  • knowledge corresponding to at least a 3-year upper secondary school qualification in English.

Specific Requirements for the Position

  • Master's degree in hospital physics (medical radiation physics), biomedical engineering, or a similar degree.

Personal Qualities

  • Independent, resilient, good teamwork skills, proactive, stable, structured, creative, good analytical and mathematical ability, solution-focused.
  • Good skills in oral and written communication in English.
  • Good communication, presentation, and writing skills.

Merits

  • Experience working with radiological diagnostics, especially in mammography (e.g., thesis work in the field).

Evaluation and Selection

In accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance, the selection should primarily be based on an assessment of the applicants' ability to benefit from the education. In admission, it is primarily the applicant's merits from the basic education that can normally be assessed. In this regard, breadth, depth, and relevance as well as elements of independent work should be considered.

Conditions

Fixed-term employment for four years according to HE Ordinance Chapter 5, Section 7. As a doctoral student at Lund University, you are both admitted as a student and employed.

The employment is a fixed-term position totaling four years, 100%, with a preliminary start date of July 1, 2026, or as agreed. The main rule is that positions at Lund University are carried out in Sweden; therefore, you are expected to be able to perform your work on-site in Malmö.
