Norretullskolan A is a municipal adapted primary school for students in grades 7–9 with intellectual disabilities. The school is currently located at Kristianstad University, and after the autumn break, the operations will move to the newly built Allöskolan.

The school has a clear focus on developing each student as far as possible based on their own abilities. We are constantly working to find new paths to learning. Together with special education teachers, teachers, and student assistants, we strive to give students the opportunity to reach their maximum development. A prerequisite for this is a warm and inclusive climate.

Your role with us

As a student assistant, you work to help and stimulate students in need of special support in learning, development, and independence, both individually and in groups, using a low-affective approach. The work involves creating a safe environment and frameworks for the students, focusing on studies and conditions for developing cooperation and relationships at school. The work is carried out on behalf of the responsible teacher based on the current curriculum. You support students throughout the school day, both in the classroom and during breaks, in the after-school center, during meal and hygiene situations, and during other activities.

The work requires constant attention, analysis, and understanding of situations inside and outside the classroom. In close cooperation with teachers and other student assistants, you strive to find individual solutions so that each student can benefit from the teaching in the best way possible. Understanding each other's professional roles is of utmost importance. Contact and cooperation with guardians is an important part of the work, as is actively participating in the workplace's development and taking responsibility for your own personal competence development. The work can be physically demanding and mentally taxing.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for you who have one of the following:

  • Upper secondary school diploma from the Child and Youth Care Programme with a focus on pedagogical and social work.
  • Passed grade from the vocational package Student Assistant within adult education or equivalent education as a student assistant within folk high school.
  • Degree/passed grade from equivalent education that the employer assesses as sufficiently extensive within pedagogy and children's development and learning.
  • Meets parts of the educational requirements and has at least three years of work experience as a student assistant.

We want you to have good pedagogical skills. You need to have an understanding of the role of a student assistant in an adapted school and be sensitive to the student's needs. It is an advantage if you have documented experience working as a student assistant, other experience from similar tasks, or other work experience. Experience working with people with disabilities is desirable, as is experience working with older children/teenagers aged 13–16. Knowledge of the curriculum is desirable.

You need to be able to choose appropriate methods within the pedagogical methods and techniques the school uses. We also want you to have the ability to inspire, motivate, and stimulate students in their development and have good skills in meeting school-age children. You are a balanced and stable person with a professional attitude and can handle situations that arise in a safe and calm manner – you are a calm and patient person.

To succeed in your role as a student assistant, it is important that you can take responsibility, have empathetic skills, and can cooperate. Since the work can be physically demanding, good physical health is required. We want you to be a competent swimmer, able to cycle, and have a B-driver's license for manual transmission to be able to escort or drive students to various activities.

We would like you to have knowledge in one of the following:

  • Knowledge of tube feeding.
  • Mobility techniques (standing frames, lifts).
  • Knowledge of PEP-mask.
  • Knowledge of smoking (Note: Original text had typo "riekning", corrected to smoking/health context).
  • Knowledge of handling epilepsy, diabetes.
  • Competent swimmer.
  • Knowledge of AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication).
  • Knowledge of challenging behavior.
  • Knowledge of hypersexual behavior.
  • Knowledge of visual and hearing impairments.
  • Knowledge of digital communication aids.
  • Knowledge of care and hygiene situations.

To enable us to assess your application, you must attach degree certificates/transcripts of your completed education. When we wish to offer you the position, it is required that you present an extract from the police record of offenses so that we can employ you, according to regulations in Chapter 2, Sections 31–33 of the Education Act.
