Workplace Description

The Research Group for Neurodegenerative Diseases focuses on defining and understanding the biological processes involved in Alzheimer's disease and other neurodegenerative disorders. We analyze large datasets collected from patients and cognitively healthy volunteers who undergo extensive testing involving brain imaging, biomarker measurements, and neuropsychological tests. Our group uses advanced statistical tools to analyze these unique and state-of-the-art datasets to model processes related to aging and disease. As a postdoc, you will join a growing interdisciplinary team of neuroscientists, statisticians, biologists, and engineers, committed to increasing the understanding of neurodegenerative diseases. The research group is led by Dr. Jacob Vogel, and the position is located at the Biomedical Centre (BMC) in Lund.

Duties and Responsibilities

As a Research Assistant, 50% of your working time will be devoted to research, while the remaining 50% will consist of laboratory administrative tasks. The research duties will involve supporting neuroimaging or AI projects (depending on the applicant's expertise) ongoing in the laboratory. This may include data curation, data processing, or data analysis. There is also an opportunity to lead an independent project. The laboratory administrative tasks may include support in processes related to recruitment, purchasing, planning social activities, documentation, supervision, management of digital infrastructure, website administration, and/or communication. Other tasks may include: data curation and processing; development, editing, or execution of computational scripts; presentation of data and results at internal and external research meetings; authoring scientific manuscripts; informal supervision and knowledge sharing with other employees; and writing grant applications and/or research fellowships. Other tasks may also occur.

Qualifications

The following qualifications are required for the position:

  • PhD in neuroscience, engineering, statistics, quantitative biology, physics, mathematics, or a related field
  • Very good communication skills in English, both oral and written
  • The applicant must be meticulous, detail-oriented, and display strong internal motivation
  • Good organizational and judgment skills combined with the ability to work independently, with a high sense of responsibility and initiative.
  • Competence in computational programming (e.g., in Python, R, bash, etc.)
  • Ability to independently conduct large-scale data analyses
  • Documented research productivity

The following qualifications are meritorious:

  • Experience in curation, preprocessing, and/or analysis of neuroimaging data
  • Documented experience with deep learning
  • Experience with and good knowledge of high-performance cluster-based computing
  • Experience with git and GitHub
  • Familiarity with best practices in reproducible research and open science

Other Information

The employment is a fixed-term appointment (SÄVA) for 12 months with a tentative start date of September 1, 2026, or as agreed. Full-time (100%).
