Workplace Description

The Swedish subjects are a significant part of the activities at the Centre for Languages and Literature. The subjects of Swedish and Swedish as a Second Language offer, in addition to basic courses, a large number of courses within the teacher education program and professional development courses for currently active teachers in the subject of Swedish as a Second Language. The subject of Swedish as a Foreign Language primarily targets three groups of students. Firstly, beginner and advanced courses in Swedish are offered for exchange students at Lund University. Secondly, courses granting eligibility in Swedish are offered to immigrants with an academic background residing in Sweden. Thirdly, courses in Swedish are offered to non-Swedish-speaking employees at Lund University. The activities also include conducting and assessing the national language test, TISUS. Some of the beginner teaching is initially conducted in English.

Tasks and Responsibilities

You will work with courses in Swedish as a Foreign Language. The work includes campus-based teaching in the late afternoon and evening in Lund.

Qualifications

Requirements for the position are:

  • A completed advanced degree in a subject relevant to the position
  • Documented experience of teaching courses in Swedish as a Foreign Language at a university/college
  • At least 60 credits in Swedish as a Second Language
  • Proven pedagogical skills
  • Good collaborative skills
  • Ability to teach in both Swedish and English
  • Completed higher education pedagogical training of at least five weeks or equivalent knowledge acquired in another way

Meritorious qualifications for the position are:

  • A subject teacher's degree in a relevant subject
  • Documented experience of teaching courses in Swedish as a Second Language at a university/college

For this fixed-term appointment, an exemption from the requirement for higher education pedagogical training may be considered if justified in light of other merits.

The position includes teaching (80%), competence development (10%), and other duties (10%).

The leave accrued during the employment must be taken within the period of employment.

The decision regarding the appointment will be made by Assistant Dean Marianna Smaragdi after consultation with Section Head Sandy Åkerblom and Study Director Fredrik Persson.

About the Centre for Languages and Literature

The Centre for Languages and Literature (SOL) is Sweden's largest institution focusing on languages, linguistics, literary studies, and area studies. SOL offers approximately 500 standalone courses, complemented by a growing number of degree programs at undergraduate and advanced levels. With its 36 subjects and around 30 doctoral programs, SOL forms a solid unit with breadth and depth in education and research, distinguished by both national and international visibility. SOL is led by a board where the Dean serves as chair. Additionally, there are three Assistant Deans with specific operational responsibilities. SOL has approximately 300 employees and 8,000 students, of which about one hundred are doctoral students.
