Special Needs Teacher – with a focus on development, collaboration, and the student's best interests at the center.

We are looking for an engaged and knowledgeable special needs teacher who wants to make a difference for students, colleagues, and the school's development. Södra School is a multicultural school located centrally in Falun with approximately 350 students for the upcoming school year, distributed across seven grades from preschool class to grade 6. The school is situated by Lake Tisken and just a few minutes' walk from the city center.

Our task as staff at the school is to meet every student based on their individual prerequisites. This means supporting all students, whether they need more support in their development or more challenges to reach their best selves.

Responsibilities

At our school, we work based on our annual plan where early interventions, systematic mapping, and teaching on multiple levels are in focus. Through close collaboration between teachers, student health services, and special educational resources, we create inclusive learning environments and adapt support based on students' needs. As a special needs teacher, you will become an important part of this work and contribute with guidance, mapping, and targeted interventions to strengthen students' development.

You will drive processes and working methods highlighted in research as successful for developing teaching and thereby striving towards the school's goals and helping our students succeed. You are also part of the student health team and responsible for pedagogical mappings and action plans.

Examples of responsibilities, in addition to the above, may include leading the work group together with the school's lead teacher in the school's development work, initiating and leading pedagogical discussions and projects, supporting/coaching other teachers and staff regarding special educational and compensatory teaching, as well as participating in meetings and communicating with external actors, such as social services and child and adolescent psychiatry.

An important part of the job is that you can analyze different students' development opportunities in different learning environments, independently conduct follow-up and evaluation, and lead the development of pedagogical work with the goal of meeting the needs of all children and students. You should take critical and independent initiatives to, analyze, and participate in preventive work and contribute to removing obstacles and difficulties in different learning environments.

Based on the mappings and analyses you conduct, you analyze the results together with educators and student health services.

Qualifications

For the role, the following are required:

  • You must be a licensed teacher with a special needs teacher degree and have experience working with special educational interventions.
  • You have a strong ability to plan, implement, follow up, and document both your support interventions and students' knowledge development.
  • Very good knowledge of Swedish, both spoken and written.
  • We assume that you are well-versed in the school's governing documents and can translate these into practice.
  • Special needs teacher degree and teaching degree with corresponding license.

Meritorious Qualifications

  • Previous experience working as a special needs teacher.
  • Experience in previous teaching of students with special needs and the ability to differentiate teaching and adapt it to individual needs and students' prerequisites, as well as teaching multilingual students.

Terms of Employment

The position is a permanent full-time employment, with a start date of August 10, 2025.
