We are united in our strive to understand, explain, and improve our world and the conditions of human life.
Workplace Description
SI-PASS (Supplemental Instruction / Peer Assisted Study Sessions) is a successful pedagogical model developed in the USA in the 1970s and has spread to many universities worldwide, including several in Sweden.
As an SI-Leader at the Department of Physics, you are employed by the undergraduate education at the Department of Physics and receive your SI-Leader training from the European Centre for SI-PASS at Lund University. You will work in close collaboration with both teachers and those responsible for the SI program within the Faculty, as well as with other SI-Leaders, both within and outside your Department and subject area.
What We Offer
Lund University is a government agency offering good employment conditions.
Read more on the university's website about working with us.
Being employed as an SI-Leader gives you leadership experience and you receive leadership training. Through SI leadership, you gain in-depth subject knowledge and pedagogical experience, as well as valuable professional contacts with both the faculty and other SI-Leaders and the student group.
Responsibilities
The Department of Physics is seeking two SI-Leaders for the following courses:
- Light and matter/FYSA30/2026-08-31 – 2027-01-15
- Mathematical Methods for Vibrations, Waves and Diffusion/FYSB21/2026-11-02 – 2027-01-15
As an SI-Leader, you will regularly (on average once a week) organize meetings where you lead student groups in your subject according to standard SI methodology. The purpose of the SI sessions is for the student group to discuss the subject's concepts and questions and come up with answers and solutions together. Students learn to see each other as learning resources and are trained in collaborative learning.
As an SI-Leader, your task is to lead the students and structure the SI sessions so that they function optimally. Together with the group, you will work through the course content already presented by the teachers, and your role as an SI-Leader is to be a support and sounding board in this process.
In addition to preparing and leading SI sessions in the current course, you will also:
- Market SI as a whole, as well as your specific SI sessions, in various ways
- Register and report attendance after each SI session
- Write a reflective report after each SI session
- Schedule your own SI sessions in collaboration with your SI-coordinator
- Actively participate and sometimes prepare for the regular SI meetings called by your SI-coordinator
- Collaborate with the course teacher to exchange information and facilitate planning
- Other tasks may also occur
A prerequisite for your employment is that you attend (or have attended) the SI-Leader training, which is held over two full days. The European Centre for SI-PASS offers the course to all prospective SI-Leaders at Lund University on several occasions. You will automatically be invited to the training upon employment.
The working hours are scheduled during teaching time, i.e., Monday-Friday from 08:00 to 17:00.
Eligibility
Eligible for employment as a teaching assistant is someone who is admitted to undergraduate or advanced level education at the faculty (or a related subject for joint departments). The degree must not be deferred.

- You have good knowledge of English, both spoken and written
