Description

The Swedish Coast Guard is seeking a Legal Counsel for the Legal Unit, with placement in Karlskrona, Malmö, or Gothenburg. As a Legal Counsel, your main tasks will be to provide internal legal advice, together with other lawyers, primarily concerning the Swedish Coast Guard's responsibility for rescue services at sea and maritime surveillance.

Maritime surveillance includes the coordination and dissemination of maritime information, control and supervision activities within customs and border control, police surveillance and law enforcement, as well as crime prevention activities. The advisory role also covers issues regarding civil protection and total defense, public access to information and confidentiality, administrative law, labor law, contract law, procurement, personal data processing and data protection, as well as information security, operational security, and maritime safety.

The duties also include monitoring national, EU, and international legal developments within the authority's area, developing and revising the authority's steering documents, and conducting legal quality reviews of the decisions and other documents produced by the authority.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone who has:

• A Master of Laws degree (Jur.kand. / Juristexamen).
• Several years of experience in qualified legal work.
• Very good knowledge of both Swedish and English, both spoken and written.

The following qualifications are meritorious:

• Experience of the Swedish Coast Guard's area of operations.
• Experience and competence in legal work involving criminal investigations, pre-trial investigations, or other crime prevention.
• Experience in confidentiality assessments of the types of cases mentioned above.
• Several years of experience working within the judiciary or another state authority that collaborates with the Swedish Coast Guard or has similar areas of responsibility and tasks.
• Experience working with many different types of criminal cases.
• Experience with maritime law.

Conditions

The position is a permanent employment with an initial probationary period. Start date is by agreement.

Business travel is included in the employment, both domestic and international.

Employment requires Swedish citizenship, a drug test, and a security clearance according to the Security Protection Act. Tests will be conducted during the recruitment process and used in the selection.

The Swedish Coast Guard participates in foreign missions and international operations. Therefore, the employment includes an obligation to serve abroad when required for the operations.
