to apply for the job
Jönköping Municipality is a large employer with hundreds of different professional roles. We are growing as the municipality develops with more residents, more housing, and a wider range of services. We are always looking for new competence – employees with different backgrounds and experiences, united by the common drive to create a better municipality to visit, live, work, and reside in.
Do you have knowledge and experience in pedagogical work? Do you want to help develop Sweden's ninth largest municipality? Then you have a job to apply for.
Your new job
As a teacher with us, you plan and conduct mother tongue instruction and collaborate with subject teachers to provide high-quality study guidance. You and your colleagues at the unit are driven to develop the mother tongue subject together. Collaboration with all schools is incredibly important, and as a mother tongue teacher, you share mid-term assessments with mentors, guardians, and students according to our joint planning. The mother tongue subject is then discussed in the development meetings held by the mentor. You identify and assist with, for example, pedagogical investigations.
With us, we work on development and self-leadership within the unit, achieved through active participation in meetings, theme weeks, and other activities that strengthen the unit.
We are seeking mother tongue teachers/study guides in the following languages:
- Madi 30%
- Burmese 5%
- Swedish Romani 5%
Welcome to us
The Mother Tongue and Reception Unit is located in Kunskapens Hus (House of Knowledge) on Kålgården in central Jönköping. The unit currently comprises approximately 3,400 students studying the mother tongue subject and approximately 220 students receiving study guidance. Within the operation, there are currently around 100 teachers who together teach in more than 40 different languages. Teaching takes place in everything from individual instruction to larger groups, as well as through distance education. The Reception Unit receives all newly arrived students in the municipality, conducts the Swedish National Agency for Education's mapping, and provides a brief introduction to the Swedish school system. On-site at Kunskapens Hus are administrators, managers, administrative developers/coordinators, and teachers working with mapping and distance education. From the school year 2026/2027, teachers with higher employment degrees will be placed at schools throughout the municipality.

Your competence
We prefer that you are qualified and licensed as a mother tongue teacher and/or another type of teacher. You have good knowledge of the Swedish language in speech and writing, at least SVA 3, as the position may include study guidance. We prefer that you have prior experience as a mother tongue teacher. You have the relevant language as your mother tongue, but also knowledge of how the Swedish school system works and the value foundation on which the school rests. A B-category driver's license is an advantage, as mother tongue teachers are mobile. These positions can be conducted via distance education, requiring digital competence to deliver remote teaching.
The abilities we consider important among our employees are personal maturity, the ability to collaborate, creativity, and, since you work across the entire municipality, the ability to see the big picture.
Good to know
To facilitate the recruitment process, we ask you to attach relevant certificates and transcripts with your application. According to the Swedish Education Act, all employees hired within our operations must present a valid extract from the criminal record. The extract is ordered via the Police Authority under the category work in school or preschool: https://polisen.se/tjanster-tillstand/belastningsregistret/skola-eller-forskola/ (https://polisen.se/tjanster-tillstand/belastningsregistret/skola-eller-forskola/)
From March 1, 2026, extended register checks were introduced for persons who are to work with children. This means you will need to submit an additional extract prior to employment. The second extract is ordered via the Police Authority under the category for work with children in other activities than school and childcare: https://polisen.se/tjanster-tillstand/belastningsregistret/barn-annan-verksamhet/ (https://polisen.se/tjanster-tillstand/belastningsregistret/barn-annan-verksamhet/)
Before hiring new employees in teaching positions, it is important to ensure that the teaching license is valid. We therefore ask you, as an applicant, to attach a current teaching license obtained from the Swedish National Agency for Education within the last two months. Please log in via the Agency's e-service using the following link: https://login.skolverket.se/idp/lleg-etjanst/select?returnUrl=https://lleg.skolverket.se/ (https://login.skolverket.se/idp/lleg-etjanst/select?returnUrl=https://lleg.skolverket.se/)
Selection and interviews may take place before the application deadline has passed.
