Do you have experience working with planning and are you an experienced leader? Do you also want to be part of a socially vital operation for all of Stockholm? Then the role of Manager of Traffic Planning and Route Optimization might be for you. We are looking for a driven, confident, and structured manager.

As responsible for the commuter train traffic planning and route construction, you will work within the Planning Department, which is responsible for traffic planning. The department also handles the planning of personnel routes for several staff groups (cleaners, station attendants, train drivers, and traffic control) as well as the planning of replacement traffic in the event of traffic disruptions.

The Planning Department lays the foundation for production and has central strategic significance for the business. In addition to extensive production responsibility, the role involves responsibility for working environment, processes, and personnel.

The position is based at our headquarters in Stockholm, and the work is performed primarily on-site.

The role involves:

  • Being responsible for the annual train planning process, where you lead, plan, prioritize, and distribute work within the department, including the development of annual and temporary traffic changes, traffic plan analyses, and vehicle rotations.
  • Being responsible for the basis and application for track capacity with Trafikverket (Swedish Transport Administration), and participating in the strategic dialogue with the client and Trafikverket regarding planning prerequisites in the short and long term.
  • Ensuring that route construction is cost-effective, employee-friendly, and in accordance with current collective agreements.
  • Having personnel and development responsibility for employees, including budget goals, employee follow-up, employee activities, and competence follow-up.

The Manager of Traffic Planning and Route Optimization is part of the Traffic production area, specifically the Planning Department, and reports to the Planning Manager. Your team consists of about ten employees who work closely with other departments.

Who are you?

We are looking for someone with a strong interest in the railway industry and planning issues, who is curious and analytical. You are an experienced and communicative leader accustomed to leading independent employees, while also being confident in providing support, guidance, and setting a clear direction for the group. You believe in close and constructive collaboration, both within the organization and with union partners, and see this as a prerequisite for an efficient operation focused on both the client, customer, and employee.

To thrive and function well in the role, we see that you:

  • Have a relevant university education, for example in industrial economics, logistics, transport, or urban planning, or alternatively other education combined with experience that we assess as equivalent.
  • Have at least 2–3 years of leadership experience with personnel responsibility.
  • Easily analyze, see connections, and concretize creative ideas into clear decision-making materials.
  • Have good collaboration skills and experience working with various stakeholders, preferably including union partners and safety organizations.
  • Have experience in planning operations, preferably within traffic, production, or another complex operational environment.

Application and Information

Selection is ongoing, so please submit your application as soon as possible. As part of the process, we will conduct a background check.

We are a drug- and alcohol-free workplace where random checks are conducted.

If you are currently employed or have previously been employed within the SJ Group, we will take internal references as a step in the employment process.
