Your new workplace

Now is the opportunity for you to help shape Sundsvall's future and put our recently adopted growth strategy and rural development program into action. As a Business and Rural Development Officer with a focus on developing existing businesses, you will become a key person in the municipality's work to achieve the goal of 5,000 new jobs by 2030.

In your role, you will be based in Sundsvall and become part of a team of 23 people in the Business and Growth Department at the Municipal Executive Board Office, working within four main areas:

• Business and rural development
• Competence supply
• Destination and place development
• Growth and infrastructure

Together with business, academia, civil society, business promotion actors, and the municipal group, we drive Sundsvall's growth journey forward, always with a focus on creating value for businesses, residents, and visitors.

How you contribute in the role of Business and Rural Development Officer

In this role, your primary task is to lead, implement, and evaluate initiatives for rural development based on the municipality's growth strategy and rural development program. You support businesses that want to start, grow, and develop in Sundsvall, and coordinate business cases to create good conditions for a growing business life.

You play a central role in coordinating and driving issues related to rural development within the municipality, in close collaboration with other departments and the political organization. An important part of the assignment is to produce qualified decision support materials for politics and to be responsible for official responses in strategic development issues.

You are a key person in the external dialogue with business, civil society, and residents, among other things through company visits and business promotion activities, with a special focus on entrepreneurship and community services in the municipality's outer areas. The role involves close collaboration with business associations and other rural-promoting actors to strengthen the business climate and living conditions in rural areas.

Responsibilities include:

• Leading the work of developing a vision for rural development within Sundsvall Municipality
• Leading, coordinating, and evaluating strategic initiatives for rural development based on municipal goals
• Initiating, leading, and following up on strategic development projects in the rural area
• Coordinating business cases to ensure a unified, efficient, and solution-oriented handling
• Regularly meeting and visiting businesses to identify obstacles and opportunities for development in rural areas
• Planning, implementing, and evaluating activities and network meetings
• Building and maintaining relevant networks with business, academia, civil society, and business promotion actors

Your qualifications and experience

• University education in a relevant field, or equivalent experience from working life
• Current and multi-year experience of business development and/or rural development
• Experience in project managing cross-functional teams or complex cases with multiple actors
• Ability and willingness to work in close collaboration between business, academia, civil society, and the public sector
• Experience in giving presentations and leading dialogues in front of larger groups in Swedish and English
• Experience in following up, documenting, and analyzing achieved results
• Fluent in Swedish and English, both spoken and written
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and curiosity regarding AI as a work tool
• Valid driver's license (Category B)

We consider it meritorious if you:

• Have run your own business or otherwise worked closely with entrepreneurs' daily lives and needs
• Have experience working in the tourism industry
• Master an additional language in speech and writing
• Have worked actively with digital services and AI

To succeed in the role, you need to be self-reliant and have good personal maturity. At the same time, you are goal- and result-oriented and drive your work forward with a focus on achieving set goals.

You move as comfortably in a political decision-making room as in a meeting with an entrepreneur or association. You are secure in your professional role, lead yourself, and enjoy taking responsibility in processes where you have significant individual responsibility with a strong team behind you.
