Do you want to work in a school where relationships, democracy, and meaningful learning are at the center, and where special educational needs work is an integrated part of the entire operation? Backaskolan is now looking for two special needs teachers for our special education groups, one for the middle school level and one for the upper secondary level.
Backaskolan is an independent F–9 school located in the heart of Sege Park in Malmö. We are a non-profit organization with approximately 270 students. Our pedagogy is inspired by Reggio Emilia and is based on participation, democracy, and aesthetic learning processes. We strive to create meaningful contexts through subject integration and an exploratory approach.
We view children and young people as active citizens and consciously work to strengthen their sense of responsibility, cooperation, and hope for the future, not least in relation to democracy and sustainable development.
Job Description
As a special needs teacher in a special education group, you are responsible for a smaller group of students who need a more adapted context. You work closely with the students in their knowledge development, as well as their social development, self-regulation, and sense of coherence.
The role involves planning, implementing, and following up on teaching based on the students' individual needs. You collaborate closely with class teachers, student welfare services, and guardians, and play a key role in creating smooth transitions between special education groups and regular classes.
Your main areas of responsibility include:
- Plan and implement teaching in special education groups
- Create a clear, structured, and predictable learning environment
- Adapt teaching and methods based on each student's needs
- Work on students' knowledge development, social skills, and independence
- Collaborate with teaching staff regarding inclusion and adaptations
- Participate in the student welfare team and contribute special educational expertise
- Cooperate with guardians to create security and continuity
Qualifications and Attributes
A degree as a special needs teacher is required.
We are looking for you who have a strong commitment to students in need of special support and who want to work long-term and relationally.
We also look for you to have:
- Experience working with students in need of extensive support measures
- Good knowledge of adaptations, differentiation, and accessible learning environments
- Ability to create structure, clarity, and security in teaching
- Experience with low-affective interaction and relationship-building approaches
- Ability to collaborate with colleagues in different professions
As a person, you are stable, flexible, and solution-focused. You have a good ability to build trusting relationships and a clear conviction that all students can develop with the right support.
