Temporary Substitute Teacher at Östervångsskolan in Lund – Sign Language Environment

About Östervångsskolan

All students have the right to a school that gives them the opportunity to develop based on their own prerequisites. SPSM runs schools on behalf of the state. We offer students a learning environment that provides opportunities for participation, learning, and development. We offer meaningful, stimulating, and important pedagogical work at our schools.

Östervångsskolan in Lund offers bilingual education in a sign language environment for students from preschool class through grade 10. Our students receive instruction in both Swedish Sign Language and written Swedish. We provide housing for students who cannot commute to school every day.

Responsibilities

As a temporary substitute, you should be prepared to step into teaching roles as a teacher, student assistant, or residential counselor. You will have direct contact with the substitute coordinator who structures your assignment. The tasks may vary depending on the specific assignment.

• You adapt and design instruction in accordance with materials provided by permanent staff.
• You are responsible for creating a safe learning environment.
• You document the instruction you are responsible for during the day and provide feedback to the permanent teacher/assistant.
• You collaborate with colleagues when support is needed.
• You carry out your tasks in Swedish Sign Language.

Qualifications

We are looking for you who have at least one year of documented experience working with children or young people. You must be able to communicate in Swedish Sign Language. Your knowledge of Swedish Sign Language must be documented, and you should describe your sign language skills in your application.

The following are considered meritorious:

• You have experience working with students with disabilities.
• You have good knowledge of how to teach in a sign language environment.
• You have good written proficiency in Swedish.
• You are familiar with the school's governing documents.
• You have good skills in making instruction accessible for each student.
• You have knowledge of and experience in working with language-developing activities.
• You understand the consequences of being deaf/hearing impaired in daily life.

Employment type: Fixed-term employment.
Duration: 6 months or longer.
