Do you want to make a difference?
Almost 20,000 students failed to complete compulsory school in Sweden during the 2024/2025 academic year. There are schools where 7 out of 10 students do not qualify for upper secondary education. At the non-profit Foundation Läxhjälpen, you contribute your skills and commitment to help more students meet the qualification requirements with confidence for the future.
Looking for Homework Helpers in Gothenburg for Autumn 2026
We are looking for you who want to help lay the foundation for a good school year! We are looking for someone interested in a paid part-time job while simultaneously making a concrete social contribution. The position is an hourly employment in the afternoons/evenings, which in short means being a homework helper after school hours at one of our partner schools. Here, you work in a team of three homework helpers, all of whom are university students. You receive training in and work according to our structured approach. Each homework help group consists of 15 students, and together with your colleagues, you are responsible for planning, implementing, and following up on the work.
Regular or Substitute?
As a homework helper, you can work either as a regular helper or as a substitute. As a regular homework helper, you work 6 hours per week, distributed over two scheduled afternoons/evenings (possibility for extra shifts exists). As a substitute, you work when regular helpers are on leave or sick. The work is performed after school hours in the school premises.
We are looking for someone who:
- Is a university or college student
- Has pedagogical ability and can communicate and build relationships with children and young people.
- Is solution-oriented, proactive, and can work according to our structured approach and method.
- Has broad basic subject knowledge and good study skills.
- Shares the Foundation Läxhjälpens values and vision of a society where all children grow up with the prerequisites to pass school and shape their own future.
Since the job involves working with children, we place great emphasis on personal suitability. Providing an extract from the police record for the employer is a statutory requirement for working with children and young people.
A concrete effort against exclusion
Differences between schools, where you live, where you come from, and what your parents do increasingly determine the likelihood of you passing school. Stiftelsen Läxhjälpen is a non-profit foundation that operates where it is needed most. Läxhjälpen is free for the students, and the homework helpers' salaries are financed through support from business and the public sector.
Läxhjälpen is a concrete effort addressing one of Sweden's biggest problems today – that more and more young people are failing school and risk ending up outside of society. Carefully selected, paid university students help young people with their studies two evenings a week and serve as positive role models and mentors. Since our start in 2007, we have developed a structured approach and a clear goal – grades should improve and students should progress to upper secondary education. Today, we are present in over 90 schools in cities including Stockholm, Södertälje, Västerås, Norrköping, Gothenburg, Landskrona, Umeå, Sundsvall, Uppsala, Gävle, and Malmö.
