Care for people with disabilities
Within our care services, we work to provide support and services to people with various disabilities. Our mission is to facilitate daily life and create conditions for the most independent life possible. With the individual at the center, we work based on our values: trust, care, and participation.
We are now looking for four short-term foster families on Gotland.
Are you interested in opening your home and being an extra family for a child or young person on certain weekdays, evenings, or weekends? Then this might be something for you.
As a short-term foster family, you will welcome a child or young person with a disability into your home for shorter periods. The initiative gives the child an opportunity for a change of environment, social community, and new experiences, while providing relief for the child's regular family.
Your Tasks
Being a short-term foster family involves, among other things:
- a child or young person with a disability visits your home during planned weekends or single days on weekdays
- the child or young person gets the opportunity for a change of environment, new experiences, and social community
- the visits provide valuable relief for the child's family
Assignment and Compensation
- the assignment as a short-term foster family is not an employment, but a commission
- you receive a fee as compensation for the assignment
- you also receive expense reimbursement to cover costs such as food and activities
- fees and expense reimbursements follow the guidelines of Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions (SKR)
After You Have Applied
- we review applications on an ongoing basis
- before an assignment can begin, we conduct an investigation of the family
- the investigation is part of the process for a potential assignment as a short-term foster family
Who Are You?
The most important thing for a short-term foster family is that you like children and young people and have the will, time, and commitment to make an important contribution to a child's life. You do not need previous experience of being a short-term foster family, but it is an asset if you have experience with children or young people with disabilities. It is also an asset if someone in the family has education in, for example, children and youth, care and welfare, or a pedagogical focus.
You are a secure and stable family with personal maturity that can offer a warm and structured environment for a child. With your empathetic ability, clarity, and holistic view, you easily meet children's needs and create an environment where the child can feel seen, understood, and welcome. You also have a good ability to collaborate and build trusting relationships with the child's family and network.
