Research Group Description
The position is based at the Department of Clinical Sciences, Malmö, within the research unit for Diabetic Complications, led by Professor Maria F. Gomez, and within the research environment of Lund University Diabetes Centre (LUDC; www.ludc.lu.se) and EXODIAB (Excellence of Diabetes Research in Sweden). LUDC is one of the world's largest research centers for diabetes, with approximately 300 employees (including researchers, technical, and administrative staff) working towards improved diagnostics, prevention, and treatment of diabetes and its complications. A key focus for LUDC is developing precision medicine to improve the health and quality of life for patients with diabetes.
Within the research group, we value a good working environment characterized by respect and care in our relationships, striving for a workplace that is experienced as developmental and stimulating for all employees. We constantly work to create conditions for job satisfaction, development, and participation. We prioritize both physical safety and the psychosocial work environment.
Responsibilities and Duties
The focus of this position is on Cardiovascular-Kidney-Metabolic (CKM) syndrome, characterized by overlapping Type 2 Diabetes (T2D), Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), and Cardiovascular Disease (CVD). CKM syndrome is a leading cause of premature mortality and healthcare burden globally. We are seeking an enthusiastic and talented individual to strengthen the unit's expertise in data mining, artificial intelligence, epidemiology, public health, and systems medicine within the framework of precision medicine. We expect the successful candidate to have experience in programming, data analysis, and data mining to identify trends and produce meaningful data visualizations, as well as experience working with various bioinformatics tools and statistical methods. The candidate is expected to utilize multimodal data to identify biologically and clinically meaningful subtypes of CKM syndrome, establish their prognostic significance, and identify predictive biomarkers for treatment response. The candidate is also expected to have excellent communication skills and a willingness to interact with other researchers.
Qualifications
Requirements for the position include:
- PhD in Clinical Pharmacology and Pharmacy.
- Experience as a clinical and translational researcher specialized in precision medicine for cardiometabolic diseases, particularly Type 2 Diabetes and Chronic Kidney Disease.
- Postdoctoral research experience at a leading international institution (e.g., top university or medical research center).
- Expertise in epidemiology and population research, including the design and analysis of cohort and register studies to define disease risk, progression, and treatment outcomes. Skills in applying causal inference, survival analysis, and longitudinal modeling to link clinical and biological data.
- Expertise in predictive modeling and AI applications, including the development and validation of machine learning and statistical models for disease prediction, prognosis, and therapeutic response. Proficiency in R, SAS, and other bioinformatics tools for data integration and advanced analysis.
- Expertise in biomarker discovery and precision medicine, including multi-omics research involving clinical trials/longitudinal cohort datasets to identify biomarkers for therapeutic response and disease progression to promote precision medicine.
- Expertise in clinical and translational study design, including intervention and observational studies, integrating mechanistic hypotheses with clinical endpoints.
- Experience in grant writing and research funding: A documented track record of securing competitive funding. Experience in proposal writing, budget justification, and progress reporting.
- Experience in collaborative, interdisciplinary research with global reach: Extensive international experience in Asia, Europe, and North America. Skilled in managing partnerships with pharmaceutical companies, regulatory authorities, and global health organizations.
- Experience in scientific communication and dissemination: A track record of high-impact publications and conference presentations. Effective in communicating complex results to scientific, clinical, and policy groups.
- We will also consider personal attributes and prefer individuals who are self-driven, flexible, and capable of working independently in a well-documented manner, managing multiple projects in parallel, prioritizing tasks, and meeting deadlines.
Merits for the position include:
- Additional clinical competence and research experience (e.g., fellowships).
- Documented research supervision and teaching experience.
Other Information
