We are seeking a promising researcher to conduct and lead groundbreaking research within one of the Faculty of Humanities and Theology's key research areas, for appointment as an Assistant Professor (Associate Senior Lecturer).

If so, we offer you the opportunity for employment as an Assistant Professor within the framework of the Lund University Programme for Global Excellence. We are looking for an academically promising young researcher who can build and lead a research group within one of the following key research areas:

• Apocalyptic and Post-Apocalyptic Studies (at the Centre for Theology and Religious Studies)
• Cognitive Modeling (at the Department of Philosophy)
• Environmental Humanities – Long-term perspectives (at the Department of Archaeology and Ancient History)
• The History and Memory of the Holocaust (at the Department of History).

What we offer

As an Assistant Professor, you will build your credentials as a researcher and teacher over a period of four years. During your final year, you will have the opportunity to apply for a permanent position as a Senior Lecturer. At a later stage, and depending on your continued development and the long-term needs of the research area, you may subsequently apply for promotion to Professor.

Responsibilities

As the holder of this position, the majority of your time will be devoted to your own research in collaboration with strong research environments, research infrastructures, and international platforms.

Qualifications for appointment as Assistant Professor

You must have a doctoral degree or equivalent scientific competence in one of the following subjects:

• Archaeology and Ancient History, or an equivalent subject area (for applications to Environmental Humanities – Long-term perspectives)
• Cognitive Science or Computational Neuroscience (for applications to Cognitive Modeling)
• History (for applications to The History and Memory of the Holocaust)
• Systematic Theology, Philosophy of Religion, or Theological Ethics (for applications to Apocalyptic and Post-Apocalyptic Studies)

Applicants who obtained their doctoral degree within seven years prior to the application deadline will be prioritized. If you can document special circumstances that prevented you from working as a researcher after graduation, your doctoral degree may have been awarded earlier.

Requirements

To be eligible for appointment as an Assistant Professor within the framework of the Lund University Programme for Global Excellence, the applicant is expected to demonstrate the following qualifications and abilities:

• Good ability to initiate, develop, and conduct high-quality research
• Good pedagogical ability
• Experience of conducting research outside Sweden, relevant to the current call
• A research plan for an innovative research project focused on one of the above-mentioned key research areas (to be submitted with the application)
• Documented good ability to lead activities and projects (e.g., through trust assignments, leadership training, and assessed leadership skills)
• Good communication skills
• Very good oral and written skills in English
• Documented ability to learn new languages
• Have not received any salary or grant funding from Swedish employers or funding bodies since December 31, 2022.

Employment Type

Fixed-term employment, 4 years, according to Chapter 4, Section 12a of the Higher Education Ordinance, with the possibility of promotion to a permanent position as a Senior Lecturer.
