If so, you are welcome to apply for the position of study and career counselor at Adult Education within the Department of Individual and Labor Market Administration (IAF).

Adult Education is an area within the Department of Individual and Labor Market Administration (IAF). The department also covers the areas of Children, Youth and Family, Work and Income Support, as well as Substance Abuse and Mental Health. Together, we work to create conditions for learning and work, improve life situations in cases of mental health issues and substance abuse, ensure safe upbringing conditions, and reduce social exclusion. We increase opportunities for individuals to achieve self-sufficiency. We work preventively and provide the right support at the right time based on individual needs and possibilities. As a study and career counselor within Adult Education, you play a central role in the municipality's work with skills supply, where your contacts extend both internally and externally. Each year, between 4,000 to 5,000 students attend Adult Education, and the education is conducted continuously throughout the year. The length of education varies from five weeks to up to a year. Adult Education in Sundsvall offers basic and upper secondary education for adults, vocational training, customized education through Komvux, Swedish for immigrants (Sfi), and higher vocational education (YH). The activities are conducted both in municipal management and through external educational providers.

How you contribute in the role of study and career counselor

One of our study and career counselors will be on parental leave, and we therefore need to strengthen our team with a temporary counselor. The work as a study and career counselor in Adult Education differs significantly from the work as a study and career counselor in primary and secondary schools. There are often short lead times, a high pace, and the tasks vary based on the needs of the organization. You work for all operations within Adult Education, and you will meet both current and prospective students. You work proactively and motivationally. You should be able to conduct counseling sessions, both individually and in groups. You will work with eligibility assessments and outreach activities. Contacts with authorities are common, and the tasks also include a fair amount of administrative work. As a study and career counselor in Adult Education, you work together with your colleagues and follow common decisions and processes. We focus on study and career guidance in a broad sense. Several functions together provide the overall study and career guidance. You depend on other functions, and other functions depend on you. Together, we create the whole for the student.

Your qualifications and experience

You have one of the following qualifications. Education must be verifiable with a diploma, and relevant experience must be documented in writing and verified with references.

• Degree in study and career counseling.
• Completed and graded bridging education to become a study and career counselor.
• Degree from another equivalent university education combined with several years of guidance work.

As a person, you are solution-focused, responsible, service-oriented, and flexible. You have good collaboration skills and can express yourself well in Swedish, both orally and in writing. You have a strong ability to build good relationships. You are innovative, co-creative, and have a good ability to handle constant changes. Since part of this position may involve working with eligibility reviews of incoming applications, it is very important that you are administratively skilled and enjoy administrative work, as well as having good computer skills. It is also important that you can prioritize your tasks based on the needs of the organization.

Preferred qualifications include:

• Experience working within Adult Education.
• Documented and good experience in guiding and coaching adults regarding their learning.
• Documented and good experience in administrative work.
