The Highland Federation is a municipal federation formed by Aneby, Eksjö, Nässjö, Sävsjö, and Vetlanda. These five municipalities, located in the Småland highlands, value cooperation and know that we are stronger together. By combining our strengths and resources, we can increase competence, better utilize resources, improve quality, and provide better service to residents. Today, we have a range of different operations working for the benefit of the entire Highland region.

One of the operations within the Highland Federation is Highland High School. Highland High School has schools in Eksjö, Nässjö, Sävsjö, and Vetlanda. We have approximately 550 employees working to ensure that our approximately 3000 students receive a high-quality education that prepares them for the future in the workforce or for further studies.

We are looking for someone to work with students in need of support.

Are you driven to challenge learning and have a good rapport with young people? Then we have a job for you.

Your new job

We are looking for a teaching assistant for the adapted high school in Eksjö. The primary duties of a teaching assistant in the adapted high school are to provide pedagogical support at both individual and group levels to students with intellectual disabilities. In addition, the work also involves social training with students and, if necessary, meeting the care needs of students, such as hygiene, toilet visits, dressing and undressing, meal situations, etc. It may also involve training for the youth to manage daily life and handling verbal and physical expressions and situations. The tasks may vary over time and depend on which students are present at the school.

As a teaching assistant at the adapted high school, you should be able to work with all our students and across all our programs. Initially, the position will primarily be focused on the students enrolled in our vehicle and goods handling program. The responsibility for planning the teaching lies with the program's teachers, but we strive for the teaching assistant to be involved in these matters as well. The school tries to prioritize conference time for staff so that everyone feels included and knows what needs to be done. As an employee, you also actively participate in the school's overall quality work.

About you

We are looking for someone who has an interest and aptitude for working with people. It is an advantage if you have experience working with individuals with disabilities/multiple diagnoses. Previous experience working in an adapted high school is also considered an asset. Since the position will primarily be focused on the vehicle and goods handling program, it is beneficial if you have workshop experience, knowledge of basic mechanical bicycle and vehicle work, and a forklift license.

Since the role involves supporting students in various subjects, the work may also include elements related to physical education classes. This could involve providing support in changing rooms at the school and during swimming lessons at Eksjö swimming hall. To meet the students' needs, the team should consist of both men and women. In this recruitment, we are therefore primarily looking for a male assistant who can support the boys in these situations.

To thrive in this role, you need to be outgoing, collaborative, and enjoy working together with your colleagues. You are committed to your mission and want to develop alongside both the team and the students. In your role, you take responsibility for contributing to our common goal – to create a safe environment where young people are given good opportunities to develop and eventually live as independently and fulfilling lives as possible.

In working with our youth, it is very important for staff to be adaptable and able to collaborate in a non-prestigious manner. This means you should have the ability to change your perspective and approach if necessary. The ability to create and maintain good relationships is central to the mission. We work from an approach where low-arousal responses, clarity, and structure are important tools for building relationships and creating mutual trust. Patience, a positive view of people, and confidence in yourself are therefore very important qualities in this role.

About our school

The adapted high school in Eksjö is centrally located in Eksjö in the Storegård area and is organizationally part of Eksjö Gymnasium. We currently have 29 students distributed across three national programs and our individual program. We provide our students with a safe study environment with special pedagogical adaptations and support to ensure they have good opportunities for meaningful employment in the future. It is important for us that our youth feel they are part of society and have influence over their lives.

At the school, the principal, special teachers/teachers, teaching assistants, special educators, and study and career counselors work together with the common goal of creating both pedagogical, social, and physical accessibility for all students. In addition, we have good access to school nurses/counselors and very good contact with habilitation services.

Good to know

The position is a permanent employment with a part-time contract of 85%. Start date is immediate according to agreement.

As a final candidate in the recruitment process, it is a requirement, in accordance with the Education Act, that you present an extract from the criminal record for work within the school. This extract can be requested from the police's website.

If you are called for an interview, you need to be able to prove your citizenship. You do this by presenting a valid passport or a certificate of citizenship along with a valid ID. The certificate of citizenship can be ordered from the tax authority under my pages. If you are a citizen of a country outside the EU/EES/Switzerland, you must also be able to present a valid residence and/or work permit to work in Sweden.
