We are announcing a PhD position in computer science, within the CUGS graduate school, in collaboration with Cybercampus Sweden. The position is located in the Department of Cybersecurity at the Department of Computer Science (IDA), Linköping University.

Your tasks

As a PhD student, you will engage in your doctoral education and the research projects you are part of. Your work may also include teaching or participating in other departmental assignments, up to 20 percent of full-time.

Your qualifications

You have a master's degree in computer science or computer engineering or have completed courses totaling at least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 higher education credits at the advanced level in core databases or have acquired equivalent knowledge in other ways.

CUGS also requires:

  • solid knowledge of English, both spoken and written, as well as comprehension
  • previous experience of independent work as well as teamwork

For this project, strong programming skills and an interest in software security are required.

Previous research experience (e.g., in connection with a thesis) is a desirable merit. Experience in machine learning, formal methods, or network protocols is also advantageous.

Your workplace

The Department of Computer Science (IDA) was founded in 1983, but our roots go back to the early 1970s. It is one of the largest computer science departments in Northern Europe.

Our research covers a wide range of areas, from fundamental computer science to applied fields. The extensive research also influences our undergraduate and graduate education, leading us to offer courses in several civil and engineering programs, as well as programs in innovative programming, cognitive science, and statistics. You will work in the Department of Cybersecurity, where research focuses on securing the most critical functions of the digital society. In a large number of national and European projects, methods are developed for, for example, verification, intrusion detection, and AI-based cybersecurity. The research also includes the protection of critical infrastructure, such as smart grids and secure software supply chains. In the university's cybersecurity lab, vulnerabilities in isolated systems are analyzed to develop new methods in research and train students and professionals.

About the position

Upon taking up the position, you will be admitted to the doctoral program. Read more about the respective faculty's doctoral education here.

The position is time-limited to normally four years full-time. Extension of the position up to five years can occur based on the degree of teaching and departmental assignments. In special cases, further extension may occur. You will initially be employed for one year, and thereafter the employment will be renewed for a maximum of two years at a time, based on the achieved study plan.

Start date by agreement.

The position may be subject to security classification. If so, a security review with a background check will be conducted before a decision on employment is made.
