Economist at Uppsala University

Do you want to work broadly with finance and accounting alongside competent and friendly colleagues in an organization that strives to make a long-term difference in society? Do you want an employer that invests in sustainable employee engagement and offers secure, favorable working conditions? Welcome to apply for the position of economist at Uppsala University.

The Department of Public Health and Caring Sciences is a department within the Faculty of Medicine at Uppsala University. The operations consist of 11 research groups, and education is conducted at all levels. Here you can read more about us: https://www.pubcare.uu.se/ (https://www.pubcare.uu.se/)

The administrative group currently consists of 20 people working in finance, HR, and study administration. One of our economists is going on parental leave, and therefore we are looking for a temporary replacement. There are very good chances for further employment at Uppsala University after the end of this position.

As an employer, we can offer you a social workplace with wonderful colleagues, flexible working hours, and internal training for professional development in your role as an economist. Good conditions for balancing work and leisure are important to us, and we apply flexible working hours and have favorable conditions regarding vacation. We offer all employees wellness grants and wellness activities during working hours. We are located at the Biomedical Center in Uppsala, and we are looking for a person who prefers to work on-site at the office, but there is an option for remote work one day a week.

Job Responsibilities

As an economist, you will work independently but closely collaborate with colleagues in the finance group and other support functions. You will handle ongoing bookkeeping and accounting issues and have extensive contact with the department's researchers and teachers, providing them with support on financial matters.

Among the tasks and responsibilities are:

  • Accounting, monitoring, and analysis
  • Forecasts, cost calculations, and financial decision support
  • Budgeting and year-end closing work
  • Reporting to external funders
  • Invoice management
  • Contributing to the ongoing development of routines and working methods

Other administrative tasks may also arise.

Qualifications

  • University degree in a relevant field, e.g., accounting or equivalent competence deemed equivalent by the employer.
  • Very good ability to express yourself in Swedish and English, both orally and in writing.
  • Excellent IT skills and current experience working in administrative systems and the Office suite, as you will be working in several different administrative systems that are continuously changing.

Great emphasis is placed on personal suitability. To thrive and fit in the role, you should have good collaboration and initiative skills, be meticulous, flexible, and efficient. You need to be self-driven in your role but enjoy close collaboration with others. The workload varies throughout the year, and you need to be able to handle peak workloads in a self-directed, controlled, and structured manner while also being able to drive and plan your work during quieter periods. It is important that you are unpretentious and flexible as the role is broad, and you need to be able to take on varied tasks, sometimes with short notice.
