Makerspace at Uppsala University

Makerspace is a creative workshop environment where students and staff can experiment, build prototypes, and explore various techniques and tools.

Here you will find, among other things, 3D printers, VR stations, sewing machines, Arduino, and soldering stations.

There are two Makerspaces at Uppsala University.

• Makerspace EBC is located in the Biology Library at the Evolutionary Biology Center.
• Makerspace Ångström is located adjacent to the library at the Ångström Laboratory.

Makerspace is run by student employees who are responsible for planning and executing the activities. The students take care of the premises and equipment and conduct several introductory courses for the tools provided in Makerspace.

We are now looking for new student assistants for Makerspace. You will be part of Team Makerspace at EBC or Team Makerspace at Ångström.

Responsibilities

Your main responsibilities include conducting training sessions on how to use Makerspace, marketing and communication, technical maintenance of 3D printers, as well as planning and administration. You will work during scheduled workshops, events, and assignments. You will be the face of Uppsala University and focus on our users.

You should be prepared to work one to two fixed shifts per week, but it can also be flexible. Evenings between approximately 5:00 PM and 9:00 PM are the most common, but other times may also be relevant. Working hours are adapted to function alongside full-time studies. We will provide you with an introduction at the start of your employment.

Qualifications

You:

• Are an active student at Uppsala University, Faculty of Science and Technology, in an engineering, bachelor's, or master's program
• Have a genuine interest in technology
• Have excellent knowledge of Swedish and English, both spoken and written

Personal qualities are important. You are good at communicating, creative, and curious to learn more about Makerspace. You are eager to share your knowledge with others and are not afraid to speak in front of groups in both Swedish and English. Furthermore, you are responsible and have a strong sense of teamwork while also having the ability to take your own initiatives.

Desirable/meritorious

It is an advantage if you have experience with 3D printers, programming, or creative software for CAD, 3D modeling, and have administrative skills (e.g., documentation, marketing on social media).

About the position

The position is temporary according to HF Chapter 5 § 12. You will be hired for each individual assignment and receive financial compensation per hour. The extent is approximately 10-30%. Start date according to agreement. Location: Uppsala.
