Description of the Research Group

Diagnostic Radiology, ITM, Lund University conducts research related to medical imaging diagnostics.

LUCI (Lund University Breast Cancer Imaging) is an interdisciplinary research group led by Professor Sophia Zackrisson, with a primary research focus on innovative imaging modalities and methods in breast cancer diagnostics, particularly in screening and artificial intelligence. LUCI is a well-established research environment with a comprehensive group of affiliated PhD students, postdocs, and more senior researchers from various disciplines, with close collaboration primarily between medical radiation physics and diagnostic radiology. LUCI has many national and international partners. The group is located at Skåne University Hospital in Malmö.

Job Responsibilities and Areas of Responsibility

The goal of this project is to develop image-based models to predict breast cancer risk and thereby enable individualized screening. Data will be sourced from the Malmö-Breast Imaging database and linked with additional transcriptomic and clinical datasets. Data processing and statistical analyses will be conducted in collaboration with members of the research group and statisticians. The role also includes participation in the group’s daily administrative activities, collection and validation of patient data, and supervision of master’s and bachelor’s students.

Qualifications

The following qualifications are required for the position:

  • PhD in biomedicine, experimental oncology, or biotechnology with a focus on breast cancer.
  • At least two years of postdoctoral experience specializing in image-based breast cancer databases, healthcare registers, and analysis of transcriptomic data.
  • Experience in analysis and data mining to identify trends and create data visualizations.
  • Experience with R and SPSS software.
  • Experience in scientific writing and scientific communication.
  • Documented oral and written proficiency in English.
  • Great emphasis will be placed on personal qualities. We are looking for someone who is engaged, proactive, and has a good ability to work independently as well as in a team.

Desirable qualifications include:

  • Experience in handling and analyzing large-scale datasets.
  • Experience in translational breast cancer research.
  • Experience in epidemiological methods.
  • Experience in supervising students.
  • Experience in collaboration with international partners.

Other Information

The position is a special fixed-term employment (SÄVA) for 12 months with a preliminary start date of May 1, 2026, or by agreement. Full-time position (100%).
