What does the role entail?

As an officer in the Environmental Department's unit for environmental analysis, you will be primarily responsible for the work with the Information Center for the Proper Baltic Sea, ICEÖ. ICEÖ is one of Sweden's three marine information centers operated by the County Administrative Board, reporting on algal blooms and other large-scale events such as oxygen depletion or cases of large numbers of dead birds, fish, or seals.

The assignment involves a lot of independent work such as gathering and compiling information about the algal situation, continuously publishing information on the web and social media, regularly updating a GIS-based map with algal bloom observations, maintaining contacts with other information centers, SMHI, universities, etc., liaising with the media, answering questions or receiving and compiling reports from private individuals, authorities, municipalities, and more. It also involves compiling data, producing an operational report, and driving development work within the assignment.

Are you the one we are looking for?

For this role, you need to have:

  • a scientific/technical academic education at the university level in marine biology,
  • the ability to analyze and compile information,
  • the ability to communicate broadly with different target groups, primarily private individuals, municipalities, authorities, both verbally and in writing,
  • experience in information management on social media and the web,
  • knowledge of personal data management and GDPR,
  • good administrative skills,
  • proficiency in Swedish and English.

As a person, you have a good ability to create and maintain good relationships both internally and externally. You need to have a customer-oriented approach since contacts with operators, media, and the public are important parts of the job.

You are analytical and good at handling and absorbing large amounts of information and data. You can present facts in a structured and pedagogical way in both report form and briefly to the public, as well as present orally in various types of forums.

You are driven to achieve results and take initiative, enjoy working independently, and are good at coordination.

The job requires that you also enjoy working together with others.

As an employee at the County Administrative Board, you need to:

  • have the ability to make decisions considering multiple perspectives,
  • understand that a central role for the County Administrative Board is to balance different interests,
  • have the ability to prioritize and adapt to work with new tasks or in new contexts.

We place crucial importance on personal qualities.

It is advantageous if you have:

  • GIS competence,
  • experience with media contacts and news dissemination,
  • experience in environmental monitoring and water management,
  • a driver's license, class B,
  • competence in invasive alien species.

More about us and the role

The position is a special fixed-term employment for full-time over three months starting in June 2026. You will be based in Stockholm. Organizationally, the position is placed in the Environmental Analysis unit of the Environmental Department at the County Administrative Board. Initially, you will work alongside an experienced marine officer, before taking over responsibility during the summer.

ICEÖ collaborates extensively with SMHI and the Department of Ecology, Environment, and Botany at Stockholm University. SMHI provides the daily interpreted satellite information on algal blooms during the period of June to August. The work is carried out with support from Swedish environmental monitoring and on behalf of the Swedish Agency for Marine and Water Management.

The information center receives information from the public and others regarding the condition of the Baltic Sea.
