Are you knowledgeable in trade policy and interested in Sweden's work with the EU's free trade negotiations? Then there is an exciting position for you at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs (UD AL), which is responsible for Sweden's relations with countries in Asia, Oceania, and Latin America, both bilaterally and through the EU. Sweden's strategic interests are at the forefront of the unit's work, which spans from foreign and security policy to trade issues, promoting Sweden, and aid. Many of the EU's ongoing free trade negotiations are with countries in Asia.
Your Workday. Sweden's Tomorrow.
Your main tasks will involve managing processes related to ongoing free trade negotiations, actions on the Swedish side for the completion of free trade agreements, and follow-up on agreements that have been finalized. You will ensure that Swedish positions are supported within the Government Offices and that agreements that become Swedish law are correctly formulated and handled in relation to the Parliament. In collaboration with the Unit for International Trade Policy and the EU Internal Market (UD HI), the Swedish National Board of Trade, and our embassies in the region, you will identify Swedish priorities in the various negotiations and continuously work to ensure these are heard by the EU Commission and other EU member states. You will do this through instructions to the Swedish EU representation in Brussels, in contacts with other European capitals, and through contributions to the trade policy leadership's background material for discussions at the political level.
You will also ensure that the priorities within the work on free trade negotiations align with Sweden's overall priorities in relation to the countries involved.
Your Background
You have a relevant academic degree, preferably with a focus on trade policy or law. You have good expertise in trade agreements, the ability to translate political priorities into processually correct development of jointly coordinated inputs to the EU Commission. You are well acquainted with the processes of the Government Offices and government agency governance and have experience working in public administration.
Your Qualities
You have strong analytical skills and are quality-conscious, responsible, results-oriented, and self-driven. You have good communication and collaboration skills and the ability to build good relationships within the unit and with colleagues in the administration. You can work independently and flexibly even under time pressure. You can prioritize and have a very good ability to independently drive processes within your area of responsibility within the framework of your mandate. You express yourself well, both verbally and in writing, in both Swedish and English. You enjoy taking initiative and finding new solutions to issues and challenges that you and your colleagues identify, thereby continuously contributing to the development of our common working methods.
Other
This is a permanent position (full-time) that begins with a six-month probationary period.
Start date in mid-August 2026 or as agreed.
The position is classified in a security class, and a security check with a background check will be conducted before a hiring decision is made. You must be a Swedish citizen.
