The Space Division of the Swedish Armed Forces is expanding its operations to meet new challenges in our increasingly high-tech world. About the Space Division
The joint space division of the Armed Forces is under the Air Staff and was established in 2023. We offer a unique opportunity to be involved early in driving the development of the Armed Forces in the space domain and thereby contribute to Sweden's security.
The Space Division participates in a variety of exciting projects, such as the development of military space situational awareness, satellite launches in Kiruna, the introduction and operation of satellites, and international collaborations in the space domain.
Within the division, we have representation from all branches of the armed forces, which is important for integrating new knowledge with previous experiences from the other domains: land, sea, air, and cyber. Training on the space domain will be offered and planned, both nationally and internationally. We believe it is important to gain knowledge about the space domain to develop within your position and within the division.
About the Position
The Planning Section is responsible for operational planning, development, procurement, and implementation of the Armed Forces' space capabilities, which include satellites, launch capabilities, and systems for space situational awareness. As the Space Division is in a development phase, this position offers good opportunities to take significant personal responsibility and influence the direction of work, and the tasks may evolve over time.
Main Responsibilities
- Support the procurement and introduction of space systems, such as satellites or sensors for space surveillance together with the material area manager
- Support the work in the division regarding satellite communication, PNT/GNSS, and space weather
- Participate in the division's planning work within the space domain
- Support the follow-up and knowledge acquisition regarding space technology development
- Contribute to training and knowledge transfer to employees within the authority
- Participate in the Armed Forces' collaborations with other organizations, authorities, and nations.
REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications
- Master's degree in space technology, or equivalent knowledge through work experience deemed relevant by the employer
- Good ability to express yourself verbally and in writing in Swedish and English
- Driving license B.

We are looking for someone with an interest in space who has the ability to work in a team as well as independently. You are proactive, solution-oriented, and have an interest in increasing your understanding of the operations. A prerequisite for successfully handling the tasks is that you are structured, organized, and have a good ability to prioritize. You find it easy to connect with people, and with a professional approach, you build trusting relationships in your environment. Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.
DESIRABLE
- Current and relevant work experience in space technology
- Education and experience in project management
- Previous employment with the Armed Forces or another authority
- Completed military service or equivalent military training.
Other
Employment type: Permanent. The Armed Forces applies a six-month probationary period for those not already employed by the authority.
Position: Civil.
Employment rate: Full-time.
Work location: Uppsala, some remote work may be permitted based on operational needs.
Salary: Individual salary setting applies.
Start date: As soon as possible, by agreement.

The primary and largest task of the Air Staff is to support the Chief of Air Force's leadership of all squadrons and schools in the Air Force at all levels of the conflict scale. The Air Staff develops, plans, implements, and evaluates orders and directives issued by the Chief of Air Force. The Air Staff consists of approximately 350 employees. The Air Force organizes and trains air, base, and command units and is tasked with monitoring and protecting Sweden's airspace. This is a mission that continues around the clock, year-round, to ensure Sweden's integrity. Approximately 5100 employees, both civilian and military, work within the Air Force.
