Experienced Systems Engineer for Gripen E/F
SAAB ABÖstergötlands län, Linköping

to apply for the job
Do you want to make a real impact and difference? Here, you contribute to creating safety for people and communities. What you do matters.
The avionics system in Gripen E/F is the heart of one of the world's most technologically advanced products. Sensors, communication, decision support, flight control, and tactical functions work together in real-time - under extreme loads and with demands for absolute safety and high operational availability.
We are looking for an experienced systems engineer who wants to work with the entirety of a safety-critical flight system where technical decisions have a direct impact on the aircraft.
Your role
You will work with the avionics system in Gripen E/F. This means being involved in developing new concepts and functions where safety, robustness, and availability are crucial.
You have the opportunity to be involved in the entire product lifecycle, including:
- Requirements analysis and breakdown from operational capability to technical realization
- System architecture and interfaces between software, hardware, and function
- Integration and analysis of system behavior in complex configurations
- Verification strategy, validation, and requirements closure
- Risk management related to safety and availability
- Compliance with relevant regulations and standards (e.g., DO-178C, DO-254, ARP4754 or equivalent)
You will work closely with software, electronics, system safety, and verification - focusing on the system as a whole. You will deal with real-time requirements, distributed systems, complex functions, and dependencies. It is an environment where theory meets practical application - and where robust system design is crucial.
Your responsibilities include:
- You work closely with the actual product.
- You see how requirements are translated into functioning systems in real environments.
- You influence architecture and technical choices.
- You work in an environment where safety and availability are as important as functionality.
- You navigate between technical detail and system entirety.
This is not a role where you optimize an isolated component. You work with the whole and with measures and problem-solving that may arise.
We are looking for someone who
- Is interested in aircraft and how their systems interact with the environment.
- Has several years of experience in systems work in a technically complex environment
- Has worked with safety-critical or highly regulated systems
- Understands the connection between architecture, requirements, safety, and availability
- Has experience with requirements management, verification, and integration
- Can navigate between technical detail and system entirety
- Communicates clearly in Swedish and English
You may have a background as a software developer - but you have stepped up to the system perspective. You see dependencies, interfaces, and consequences.
Personal qualities
- Analytical and structured
- Decisive in technically uncertain situations
- Clear in communication and technical argumentation
- Independent but collaborative
The position requires you to undergo and be approved according to the current regulations for security protection. For positions where Saab has requirements for security classification, this may entail requirements for certain citizenship.
Selection is ongoing.
