The Arctic Centre (https://www.umu.se/arktiskt-centrum/) at Umeå University is a hub for transdisciplinary research and education. The centre offers a unique environment that prioritizes collaboration, networking, and strategic planning to address today's societal challenges.

We work with new and existing interdisciplinary activities focusing on sustainability, climate, health, just transition, green industrialization, indigenous perspectives, and rural issues. The Arctic Centre aims for excellence in Arctic research and education and strengthens Umeå University's central position both nationally and internationally. Through research-based knowledge, we strive for sustainable development in the Arctic.

The centre collaborates internally with the four faculties and the Teacher Education Department at Umeå University, as well as with external partners, particularly within the Arctic Six network and the University of the Arctic. Through these collaborations, opportunities are created for associated researchers and doctoral students to develop and build their own networks. The Arctic Centre also runs an Arctic research school focusing on sustainability and supports young researchers, thereby building for the future in Arctic-themed research and education.

We are now seeking a full-time temporary Project Coordinator to start as soon as possible by agreement for work at the Arctic Centre. The temporary position is until 2027-02-12.

The position is organizationally placed at the Department of Language Studies, which is the host department for the Arctic Centre.

Job Description

You will work 50% for the Arctic Centre and 50% for the European Polar Board (EPB) coordinating projects for each organization and being responsible for joint activities. This will involve managing research activities, communication efforts, and project development.

A central part of the job is to manage and coordinate each organization's participation in projects, collaborations, research applications, and networks. This also includes coordinating tasks related to these projects, including some financial reporting, time reporting, archiving, and coordinating contacts with partners.

The tasks also involve coordinating efforts for communication and research results, both internally and externally, and ensuring that research results effectively reach relevant stakeholders.

The Project Coordinator will also promote collaborations between researchers internally and with external partners, such as managing networks, coordinating workshops, conferences, and meetings in collaboration with others.

As a Project Coordinator, you are also expected to identify potential research collaborations and support applications for external funding, particularly within European programs such as Horizon Europe.

The tasks also include providing organizational support to effectively coordinate activities and collaboration with stakeholders in the Arctic and Antarctica.

Other tasks may occur.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone with a master's degree in a relevant field for the position. You should have at least three years of current work experience in project-based work within the public sector and an understanding of the conditions and contexts of research, preferably specifically within the Arctic Centre's areas of interest. As a person, you are independent, meticulous, structured, and proactive, with good organizational, communication, and collaboration skills.

Very good knowledge of Swedish and English, both spoken and written, is a requirement for the position.

Other Desired Qualifications

Practical experience in research work and structural knowledge of the university in relation to research is an advantage. Experience in communicating research and its results, as well as experience in administration and management of projects in a university environment, is also advantageous.

Experience in popular science communication is also a merit.

Other Information

The position is a temporary appointment until 2027-02-12 with a start date of 2026-03-09 or by agreement. The work location is Umeå, and a high presence in the activities is required.
