Teaching Assistant in Adapted School

Are you driven by helping others develop and find it easy to build relationships with those around you? Are you the one who finds a way forward when faced with problems in everyday life? Do you enjoy a job that has a clear structure while also being different every day? Then we believe that the position of teaching assistant in an adapted school could be something for you!

Your Responsibilities

As a teaching assistant in an adapted school, you work closely with our students and provide support throughout their school day, both pedagogically, practically, and socially. Through a good relationship, you support and provide security for our students so that they can learn, develop, and make progress in their schooling and daily lives. Here, you will closely follow the students' development journey in school and together with both students and colleagues celebrate their progress.

Adapted school exists for students with intellectual disabilities. Since our students have significant individual variations in their abilities and support needs, your tasks and working methods will vary both during the day and over time. The work in our organization is characterized by structure and predictability, while you also need to be flexible in how you meet the student. You are therefore expected to act with calm and security while also challenging the student to develop and find creative solutions to the challenges that may arise.

Common Tasks Include:

  • Clarifying the teacher's instructions during lessons, for example through verbal explanations, signs as support, sensory stimulation, or visual aids.
  • Supporting students in practical challenges throughout the day, such as bathroom visits/diaper changes, recess activities, during meals, meeting at the taxi, lifting, and transfers.
  • Participating in teaching alongside students.
  • Conducting lessons as needed, based on the teacher's planning.
  • Supporting students in social interactions with others.
  • Documenting the student's school day by taking photos and writing reflections.
  • Following students' self-care plans, such as testing blood sugar, injecting insulin, administering medication, and tube feeding.
  • Participating in planning, follow-up, and collaboration regarding students' development.
  • Supporting and preparing students for an independent life after school.

Your Workplace

With us, collaboration and development are an obvious part of everyday life. The adapted primary school is organized into three units: Nya Rydsskolan, Ekholmsskolan, and a new unit at Anders Ljungstedts gymnasium. At Nya Rydsskolan, there are five classes with about 50 students and 40 educators, where the majority of students study subject areas. At Ekholmsskolan, there are six classes with about 50 students and 40 educators where most students study subjects. Both Nya Rydsskolan and Ekholmsskolan are part of the primary school, with teaching in home classrooms at the school as well as in pavilions with classrooms in close proximity to the school area. Our new unit will be located in newly renovated premises at Anders Ljungstedts gymnasium with about 20 students and 15 educators.

Here, you will become part of an engaged team where collaboration and community are at the center. You work closely with your colleagues in daily tasks, with good opportunities to share experiences, support each other, and develop together. As a teaching assistant, you work with multiple students and in groups, creating a safe working environment where you are never alone in your mission.

Who You Are

It is a requirement that you have completed secondary or adult education. It is an advantage if you have experience working with students with intellectual disabilities/NPF or low-affective approaches.

You have good communication skills in spoken and written Swedish. This is necessary so that you, according to the curriculum (Lgra22), can organize and carry out the work so that the student receives support in their language and communication development and is responsible for ensuring that each student can use the Swedish language in a rich and nuanced way.

In your role as a teaching assistant, you are aware of the goals and quality standards for the organization. You have a good understanding of people's differences and relate to them in a responsive and flexible manner in teaching and everyday preschool life. You create good relationships and collaborate well with the contacts that occur in your professional role. You lead the work with the children through motivation, engagement, and participation. You also contribute to students' learning by bringing enthusiasm, energy, and joy to the work.

In this recruitment process, we use tests in the selection.
