We harness the power of over 40,000 students and staff. Students who bring hope for the future. Staff who contribute every day to Linköping University tackling the challenges of our time. Our values are based on credibility, trust, and security. By being brave, thinking freely, and innovating, we create a better future together, through both large and small actions. Welcome to apply for a job with us!
We are now seeking a PhD candidate in control engineering focusing on control allocation for the future stealth aircraft.
Your tasks
In this project, you will work in and collaborate within an international research project involving several of the world's leading aerospace and defense organizations. It is a subproject in a NATO-wide initiative where participating organizations can test new control algorithms on 3D-printed scale models of aircraft, developed and provided by IEI at Linköping University. The task in this PhD project, funded by Saab, involves developing new advanced optimization-based control algorithms for control allocation for the next generation of combat aircraft. Control allocation is interesting when there are multiple ways to influence a vehicle, but different methods (actuators) have their respective advantages and disadvantages, such as affecting radar signature or drag. Specifically, the challenges posed by stealth aircraft will be considered, where many cooperating control surfaces and/or thrust vectoring control (TVC) may be required to ensure the platform's safety and maneuverability. An important component of the planned research is the leading embedded optimization QP solver daqp developed by the research group.
As a PhD candidate, you will dedicate yourself to your doctoral education and the research project you are part of. Your work may also include teaching or participating in other departmental tasks, up to 20% of full-time.
Your qualifications
You have obtained a degree at the advanced level in electrical engineering, engineering physics, mechanical engineering, computer engineering, or engineering mathematics, or completed courses totaling at least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 higher education credits at the advanced level as mentioned above, or acquired equivalent knowledge in some other way. The degree requirement must be fulfilled by the time the employment decision is made, that is, when the employment contract is signed.
Furthermore, you should be interested in learning new things and exploring the unknown, and you are detail-oriented. You should also have a good ability to communicate in English, both orally and in writing.
Your workplace
The Department of Control Engineering conducts successful research, doctoral education, and undergraduate education in areas such as autonomous systems, data-driven modeling, complex networks, learning control, optimization, and sensor fusion. The department has extensive collaborations with both industry and other research groups around the world.
More information about the department can be found here: here (#). To learn more about ISY, click here (#).
About the employment
Upon commencement of the employment, you will be admitted to the doctoral program. Read more about the respective faculty's doctoral education here (#).
The employment is time-limited to normally four years full-time. Extension of employment up to five years may occur based on the degree of teaching and departmental tasks. In special cases, further extension may occur. You will initially be employed for one year, and thereafter the employment will be renewed for a maximum of two years at a time, based on the achieved study plan. Please feel free to contact [email protected] (mailto:[email protected]) if you have questions about what it is like to work as a PhD candidate at ISY.
Start date is by agreement, but we expect you to have commenced employment no later than October 31, 2026.
A security check may be conducted before the employment decision is made.
