Assistant
We are looking for a dynamic, creative, and experienced individual for the position of assistant to assist with administration and logistics for PERCEPT's international studies exploring war-related trauma related to Ukraine.
The project aims to develop innovative methods for managing and reducing intrusive memories, particularly those related to direct exposure during conflicts (e.g., bombing), repeated media coverage of conflicts (e.g., distressing video material on social media), and witnessing the suffering of others affected by the war.
The project is relevant for improving the understanding of memory processes and for psychological treatment. The ability to modulate persistent memories through digital tools can open new opportunities for treating trauma and improving the quality of life for those affected by intrusive memories.
Part of this project will focus on pilot studies in conflict areas and with refugees, primarily in the post-Soviet region. The role involves some contact with the project's partners in this area. The work also includes administrative tasks such as arranging travel.
Responsibilities
- Schedule meetings with the project's partners in the post-Soviet area.
- Take meeting notes during project meetings.
- Participate in regular project and team meetings.
- Project administration such as document management and printing previous minutes for meetings.
- Assist in communicating the project's work status and results.
- Plan own tasks and goals on a weekly basis and provide feedback on ongoing work/results during weekly meetings.
- Organize and classify documents and records belonging to PERCEPT's research group.
- Clear out PERCEPT's office before summer 2025.
- Assist with travel bookings, planning, and logistics for conferences and events.
- Gather and organize materials for external communication including social media.
- Provide general administrative support as needed.
Qualifications
To be employed as an assistant, it is a requirement that you are admitted to undergraduate or graduate education.
You have a relevant master's degree with relevant courses related to the post-Soviet area and conflict studies or knowledge and experience that the employer considers equivalent.
Educational qualifications in migration and terrorism are necessary due to the project's target group focus.
You have previous administrative experience working on projects dealing with psychological trauma.
Previous experience in academic support (travel planning and logistics), grant reporting, administration, and archiving.
Previous experience managing external communication and planning conferences in an academic context.
Previous experience working on research projects related to trauma and Ukraine.
Willingness to plan time and tasks around the project's and its team/research partners' needs and to provide feedback on plans and progress on a weekly basis.
Given the context in which the study is conducted, previous experience working in international organizations, government agencies, or non-governmental organizations is required.
You are fluent in spoken and written English. This should be supplemented with additional language skills related to the region or diaspora groups that are the focus of the project.
Desirable/meritorious
Great emphasis is placed on personal qualities. You are used to working in a results- and goal-oriented manner with tight deadlines. Many of the tasks require good collaboration skills. The work also requires you to take initiative and be driven, have a sense of service and flexibility, and continuously develop your work. You work proactively and plan your work with good foresight.
It is desirable that the candidate has completed courses or has certifications in project management and scheduling and/or good clinical practice (GCP).
