Research Position in Detonics
FOI, the Total Defence Research Institute, is one of Europe's leading institutes for applied research in defence and security. FOI is an authority under the Ministry of Defence, tasked with conducting research, method and technology development, and investigations to support total defence, disarmament, non-proliferation, and international security. Our activities are primarily commissioned by the Government Offices, the Armed Forces, the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV), and the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB). At FOI, we have about 1400 employees, of which over 1000 work directly with research and development. Our competencies span the entire field from natural sciences and engineering to social and political sciences.
Do you want to contribute to Sweden's defence and security? Are you a researcher passionate about applied physics and eager to develop computational tools for detonics? Then FOI could be your new workplace! We offer a balanced work life, a developing work environment, and a socially important job!
About the Position
In the role of researcher in detonics, you will work at the intersection of physics and chemistry on questions fundamental to Sweden's defence research. You will study the processes that occur when explosives detonate and how these can be influenced for increased safety and performance. You will work with a wide range of tools, from simple mathematical relationships to complex computational programs, such as finite element codes. You will collaborate closely with experimentalists and technicians to design, conduct, and evaluate experiments utilizing advanced measurement methods.
We collaborate with various national and international research organizations, which means that short and long trips may occur.
We offer a dynamic and inclusive work environment where you have the opportunity to develop and grow in your role, with strong support from your team. We look forward to welcoming you as an important part of our future!
About the Department
The department's activities contribute to creating and strengthening national expertise in explosives, weapon effects, and protection. Our work spans several technical areas and includes both experiments, calculations, and assessments of complex weapon and protection systems. We strive to create a work environment where everyone, regardless of background, feels welcome and can contribute their perspectives and ideas.
FOI has four locations: Stockholm-Kista, Stockholm-Grindsjön, Umeå, and Linköping. You will be part of one of the research units at the Department of Weapons, Protection, and Security located in Stockholm-Grindsjön. The picturesque Grindsjön is situated in Södertörn, about 40 km south of Stockholm. There are bus connections with Tumba, Västerhaninge, and Ösmo/Nynäshamn.
Please read more here about what we do in the department: Weapons, Protection, and Security.
