What will you work with?
As an officer, you will:
- Perform laboratory work within clinical microbiology including bacterial cultures, DNA extraction, and molecular methods.
- Conduct laboratory work within microbial surveillance programs including interpretation of results primarily from whole genome sequencing data.
- Perform laboratory work at biosafety level 2 and in a biosafety laboratory at level 3.
- Participate in outbreak investigations/contact tracing.
- Contribute to clinical research and development work regarding vaccination immunity against mpox.
- Perform and evaluate virus neutralization tests at biosafety level 3.
- Assist in the handling of study samples, including cell purification.
- Work with data management systems, such as laboratory data systems LabVantage, quality management systems Centuri, and microbiological quality work.
- Be part of the department's common sample reception.
In addition to the above tasks, other duties may arise.

Requirements for employment:
- You must be a biomedical analyst, laboratory engineer, or have another natural science education that the agency deems relevant.

Great emphasis is placed on:

- Experience of laboratory work at an accredited clinical microbiological laboratory.
- Experience working in a biosafety laboratory at level 3.
- Experience working with foodborne bacteria such as Salmonella and Listeria.
- Experience working with antibiotic-resistant bacteria and airborne bacteria such as ESBL, MRSA, VRE, and H. influenzae.
- Experience of laboratory work with Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
- Experience of laboratory work with Mpox virus.
- Experience working with culturing and extracting DNA from bacteria.
- Experience working with molecular biological methods such as real-time PCR and whole genome sequencing.
- Experience of laboratory work with serological multiplex methods.
- Good knowledge of Swedish and English, both spoken and written.
Significant emphasis is placed on:
- Experience working with antibiotic resistance, phenotypic resistance determination (micro broth dilution).
- Experience working with epidemiological typing.
- Experience from working with laboratory data systems.
- Experience of quality-assured laboratory work with a focus on continuous improvements as well as establishing method descriptions and routines in document management systems.
Importance is placed on:
- Good proficiency in using digital tools, such as Excel, PowerPoint.
- Experience working in an authority with similar operations.
What does the unit do?
The unit for laboratory bacterial surveillance is responsible for national microbial surveillance of antibiotic-resistant, healthcare-associated, airborne, and food-associated pathogens such as MRSA, pneumococci, and salmonella. The unit also serves as expert support in microbiological questions during confirmed or suspected outbreaks of these pathogens.

About the employment
You will be employed as an officer based at our office in Solna. The position is a permanent full-time employment that begins with a six-month probationary period. Start date will be as soon as possible by agreement.
As an employee at the Public Health Agency of Sweden, you may be placed in a war position. Certain positions are classified where Swedish citizenship may be a requirement. Security clearance will then be conducted in accordance with the Security Protection Act (2018:585).
