Research Secretary in Natural Sciences

Do you want to help create conditions for excellent research? Come and work with research infrastructures and the Council for Research Infrastructures (RFI)! We are now looking for a research secretary in natural sciences with a strong interest in science and research infrastructures. With us, you will work with engaged colleagues who together handle and administer the funding of research infrastructures of national interest as well as Sweden's involvement in international organizations.

The Infrastructure Support Unit at the Department of Research Infrastructure supports both national and international infrastructures and provides support to RFI, which is the council at the Swedish Research Council responsible for Sweden's strategy for research infrastructure and makes decisions on grants for research infrastructures. Furthermore, the unit's staff have tasks that follow from Sweden's engagement in, and hosting of, international research infrastructure.

Role Description and Responsibilities

As a research secretary in the field of natural sciences at the Infrastructure Support Unit, you will work with matters concerning national and international research infrastructure. You will work with calls for proposals for infrastructure of national interest, with our needs inventory, and with follow-up and evaluation of infrastructures. You may also represent Sweden in governing bodies for international organizations and research infrastructures.

Your responsibilities include:

  • assisting in the preparation of applications for funding and managing awarded grants
  • representing Sweden in international organizations and other international contexts
  • participating, or assisting, in projects, investigations, and follow-up activities that can be conducted in collaboration with other departments or external actors
  • coordinating activities and planning meetings and consultations either independently or together with other staff or external parties.

Depending on your background and experience, the role of national contact person (NCP) for fusion may also be included, a role where you monitor and inform the Swedish research community about calls within EuroAtom, as well as some project management.

Who are you?

We place great emphasis on your personal qualities. To succeed and thrive in the role, you are analytical and have the ability to coordinate, prioritize, and see logic and connections in complex information from which you can draw conclusions from a holistic perspective. You are meticulous and work in a structured manner, where you can meet deadlines by independently prioritizing among your tasks. You have good communication skills, which means you convey messages simply and are attentive, adapting your communication to the recipient. You also have strong collaboration skills and thrive in a team, actively contributing to an open and constructive work environment. You have the ability to work without fully defined frameworks and can handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

We are looking for someone who has:

  • a PhD in natural sciences
  • relevant work experience after the PhD in a related field
  • knowledge of the Swedish research system and research funding
  • experience working in public administration
  • good knowledge of Swedish and English in both spoken and written form.

It is advantageous if you have:

  • current experience working with or at a research infrastructure
  • a PhD in physics, materials science, or engineering
  • experience in project management
  • experience working with the EU's framework programs.

Location

Our office is activity-based and located at Hantverkargatan 11 in central Stockholm. If the tasks allow, there is an opportunity to work remotely part-time.

Employment Type and Start Date

We offer a permanent full-time position with a 6-month probation period. We would like you to start as soon as possible, considering any notice period. The position includes trust-based working hours.
