The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is growing – we are building new, renovating, and expanding, and are now looking for more employees. Our primary goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the vicious cycle. If we succeed, society becomes safer and more secure for everyone. We are the authority responsible for prisons, probation, detention centers, and client transports.

The Transport Department (TA) is tasked with transporting and supervising persons deprived of liberty. These are the clients of the Swedish Prison and Probation Service who are moved between detention centers and prisons, to court hearings, and hospitals, among other places. TA also transports persons deprived of liberty for agencies such as the Police, the National Board of Institutional Care, the Migration Agency, and psychiatry. JOB DESCRIPTION

We are now looking for someone who wants an educational and developing summer internship - at the Transport Department in Uddevalla!

As a correctional officer within TA, you will be part of a team consisting of two to four people, where everyone is responsible for different roles in the execution of client transports. You will encounter a wide variety of clients of different ages, backgrounds, and experiences. You will search, restrain with handcuffs, and supervise the client during transport.

TA's assignments are varied, meaning that your working hours may change from day to day. Evening and weekend work may be included. The times in the schedule are frame times, usually 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Nationally, it is more common to finish before the frame time ends, and in most cases, you will have an unchanged start time. Frame time means that the employer can change the start and end times. Changes will be communicated before the previous shift ends. For example, a shift may be between 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM (12 hours) or 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM (7 hours).

We wish for you to be available for a 3-week continuous introduction during daytime in the spring. You will receive pay during the full training period. Planned start is week 23.

QUALIFICATIONS

The role places high demands on personal suitability. As a correctional officer, you need to be secure, stable, have good self-awareness, sound judgment, and integrity. Together with your colleagues, you will drive the operations, so you need to have good collaboration skills and be clear in your communication. It is important that you share the fundamental values of the Swedish Prison and Probation Service regarding a humane view of people, respect for the individual, and belief in the potential for development and change. You need to have a good physical foundation to handle a sedentary job and to act physically when required.

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Work experience, including seasonal work, part-time employment, or self-employment. Internships and volunteer work are not equivalent to employment.
  • Completed upper secondary education or other education in combination with work experience deemed relevant by the Swedish Prison and Probation Service.
  • Good ability to express oneself verbally and in writing in Swedish.
  • Good computer skills.
  • Class B driver's license and good driving experience.

It is meritorious if you have:

  • Work experience in relevant areas, such as correctional services, security work, social care, psychiatry, healthcare, and service professions.
  • Knowledge in relevant areas, such as behavioral science, criminology, psychiatry, law, and conflict management.
  • Other relevant language skills.
  • Class C driver's license.
