We are now looking for a career and study counselor for a shared position between Vålbergsskolan (60%) and Norrstrandsskolan (40%), where you will have the opportunity to work closely with students and school staff in an important and meaningful role.

As a career and study counselor, you will be responsible for supporting and guiding students in their choices regarding studies and future careers. You will work both strategically and operationally with study and career guidance, individually and in groups, and contribute to the schools' overall work on future choices, equity, and motivation.

Responsibilities

Your role includes providing individual study and career guidance to students, as well as group guidance and information sessions. An important part of the job is to open up the labor market for young people and to highlight the many different paths available to achieve their dreams – while conveying that it is perfectly okay not to have a clear career dream yet.

You will work with a coaching approach where curiosity about the student's thoughts, interests, and conditions is at the center. In close collaboration with teachers, student health, our internal networks within Karlstad municipality, and external actors, you will contribute to creating good conditions for students' future choices. The role also includes support for guardians in matters related to study choices, work with study and career guidance integrated into teaching, and administrative tasks related to guidance and choices.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone who is a trained study and career counselor and has experience in guidance, preferably with young people. You have a good understanding of regulations regarding admission and eligibility for high school. You possess good administrative skills and strong IT knowledge. You are accustomed to working digitally and have an interest in developing and using new digital methods.

We seek someone who is flexible and can easily adapt to different contexts and students' needs. You have good social skills and a strong ability to collaborate, while also being confident in working independently. Through your relationship-building approach, you create trusting meetings with students, guardians, and colleagues.

You have pedagogical insight and can clearly and sensitively guide, inform, and coach students in their study and career choices. The role also requires leadership skills and good judgment, where you can make well-founded assessments based on both the individual's and the organization's conditions. You are structured, analytical, and possess good intellectual skills, enabling you to handle complex information and contribute to well-thought-out guidance efforts.
