The School of Economics and Management at Lund University is one of eight faculties at Lund University. The Department of Economic History is a research-intensive department with approximately 80 employees, including researchers, teachers, technical/administrative staff, and PhD candidates. The department has a comprehensive doctoral education and coordinates three international master’s programs. The department has a well-established international reputation for broad and long-term research, where economic theory and quantitative methods are important methodological tools. Strong research areas at the department include economic growth and structural change, innovation, energy and sustainability, development economics and economic demography, as well as financial history and education and labor market. Job Responsibilities

The person employed as a PhD candidate will primarily focus on their doctoral studies, which aim to result in a doctoral degree. The job responsibilities within the position consist of participation in research projects and successfully completing courses at the doctoral level (third cycle).

The person employed as a PhD candidate may also, to a limited extent, work with teaching and administrative tasks at the Department of Economic History. Such tasks may not comprise more than 20 percent of a full-time position.

The PhD position is linked to the research project “Taxation and Income Inequality in Sub-Saharan Africa: A Historical Comparative Analysis.” The PhD candidate will work within this project in close collaboration with other project participants.
