Personal Assistant Wanted

I am an active 48-year-old man who requires personal assistance around the clock, including five hours of standby duty at night.

I am now looking for more personal assistants to complement my current fantastic team.

I have CP (cerebral palsy) and use a wheelchair, and I also have type 1 diabetes, which means I need help with transfers, dressing and undressing, hygiene, meals, medication, diabetes monitoring, and all household chores. I am allergic to, among other things, tobacco smoke and especially cats.

I communicate using Bliss symbols and I use a light pointer and Bliss board, as well as an adapted computer.

My days are filled with activities both at home and outside, so it’s good if you dislike sitting still. I participate in various courses at Studium and work/train at my daily activity center on weekdays. In my free time, I enjoy going on trips, listening to music, playing boccia, and other activities that brighten my life, as well as taking care of my home since I like order and tidiness!

The position encompasses 70-80% (equivalent to 120-138 hours/month excluding standby duty). Working hours are 08:00/09:00-16:30/17:00 and 16:00/17:00-10:00 (including five hours of standby duty). The work includes both weekdays and weekends.

I am looking for someone who is empathetic, meticulous, responsible, and good at taking initiative.

It is important that you have many years of experience in personal assistance for people with mobility impairments and have good knowledge of aids such as ceiling/floor lifts, power wheelchairs, and manual wheelchairs. It is also important that you speak and write good Swedish. This is necessary for me to easily understand you, for you to interpret what I “say” in Bliss, and to advocate for me, as well as to read and respond to sometimes extensive information. You should also have good computer skills, as I retrieve information online, write and receive emails, and watch movies on my laptop.

The job is varied, and you will have access to:

• GIL’s training programs, including CPR, assistance, etc.
• Health and wellness contributions and activities through GIL where you meet other assistants.
• Of course, statutory vacation and compensation for standby and overtime.
• You will also receive good training during the shadowing period with me, which is approximately 120-130 hours spread over 4-5 weeks at an agreed hourly wage.
• You will also receive training for 10 hours (2 x 5 hours) in nutrition and diabetes from a licensed nutrition advisor.
