PhD Student in Electrical Engineering at the Department of Electrical and Information Technology

Description of the Organization

The position is located at the Department of Electrical and Information Technology and the Division of Communication Technology at Lund University’s Faculty of Engineering, LTH.

The division has 8 senior researchers, about 20 PhD students, and a rich collaboration with industry.

Within the division, we work with wireless communication in a broader sense, and the activities range from communication theory to the implementation of antenna structures.

We are now looking for a new team member in the form of a PhD student in electrical engineering with a focus on sensing and positioning.

Being a PhD Student

As a PhD student, you are both admitted as a student and employed at Lund University.

As a doctoral student, you are trained in a scientific approach. This can be briefly described as gaining practice in critical and analytical thinking, solving problems independently with the help of appropriate method choices, and developing research ethical awareness. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to work on projects, develop your leadership skills, and enhance your pedagogical abilities. Throughout your studies, you will be guided by supervisors. Doctoral studies conclude with a dissertation and a doctoral degree.

Subject and Project Description

This PhD position is part of NextG2Com – a Vinnova competence center coordinated by Lund University.

NextG2Com is a competence center for future advanced communication systems that integrate wireless communication technology and networks, software, data, and security through relevant application areas (advanced digitalization). In NextG2Com, Lund University collaborates with industry and public actors with support from Vinnova. As a PhD student within NextG2Com, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with industry partners and other PhD students within the center, participate in meetings and various center activities.

Job Responsibilities

You will primarily focus on your doctoral education, which includes participation in research projects as well as doctoral courses, seminars, and conferences.

We will explore different system configurations to achieve reliable and efficient sensing and positioning. Specifically, we will work on message transmission and joint processing of data from distributed nodes with local angle and delay information in a multistatic transceiver setup. We will also work with advanced short-range radio technology, specifically Bluetooth-based methods with angle plus distance information and millimeter-wave pulsed radar methods with angle plus distance information.

The job responsibilities include:

  • Participation in individual and joint research projects within the framework of the competence center.
  • Conducting doctoral courses within the framework of the doctoral subject.
  • Contributing to the joint activities of the competence center.
  • The job responsibilities also include participation in teaching and other departmental work (max 20% of working time).
