The Urban Environment Administration has a comprehensive responsibility for the city's public spaces and overall accessibility. We work to create accessible, attractive, and vibrant urban environments and natural areas. The administration owns and manages the tram network in Gothenburg. Approximately 900 people work in the administration.

The Urban Environment Administration is part of the urban development administrations in Gothenburg City. Together, we work to create conditions for a functioning infrastructure, quality housing and premises, an inviting public environment, and to ensure that the city becomes sustainable from all perspectives.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

We are now looking for a tree specialist for the role of interim planning leader focused on trees for the development and management unit north/south in the Outdoor Environments and Urban Life department. The temporary position lasts until 31/12 2025, with a possible extension.

As a planning leader, you will be responsible for issues related to the preservation and development of the city's existing tree population. You will have a varied job where you are expected to work both strategically and operationally and provide support. You will closely collaborate with the administration's and the city's other tree experts as well as other administrative functions. The work also includes collaboration with other competencies both internally within the administration, other city administrations, and external contractors. You will be an internal advisor and competency support to project leaders and managers in tree-related matters and be responsible for certain aspects related to tree management. You will also be involved in and drive your own projects regarding new tree plantings and participate in the work with compensatory measures for the West Link. You will also be involved in the procurement of agreements related to your areas of expertise as well as working in groups with governing documents, policies, and other guidelines.

Your job responsibilities will include:

  • Strategic planning for trees in the city
  • Monitoring work near trees
  • Assessments, valuations, and inspections of trees
  • Mapping, documentation, and planning regarding protected trees and avenues
  • Responding to referrals, both internal and external, and answering questions from the public

QUALIFICATIONS

We are looking for someone with a bachelor's degree or equivalent with a specialization in the anatomy and physiology of woody plants, such as landscape engineer, landscape architect, forest engineer, horticulturist, or equivalent. You have several years of experience working with trees and a special interest in trees and trees in urban environments. You have a good knowledge of tree anatomy, tree physiology, diseases and fungi that affect trees, as well as good plant knowledge.

It is advantageous if you have:

  • Valid B driver's license
  • Experience with contracts and construction projects
  • Technical competence in land and water management
  • Experience working practically with trees, such as arborist/consulting arborist or in a nursery/arboratum
  • Experience in public administration
  • Knowledge of contract law
  • Experience with GIS programs, such as MapInfo or QGIS
  • Training in TRAQ and/or QTRA and have several years of experience inspecting trees using these methods

In the role of planning leader for trees at the Urban Environment Administration, it is essential that you have the ability to drive your work forward both independently and in a group. The position involves a lot of contact with consultants, contractors, and other administrations and authorities, so it is crucial that you are receptive and have the ability to see your work from a holistic perspective. You are structured and analytical by nature and possess a good ability to sort and prioritize information to find a good path and collaboration towards common goals. You communicate clearly and pedagogically both verbally and in writing. We use digital project tools that require IT skills.
