Head of the Management Staff at the Swedish Customs

Do you have management experience and a good understanding of the leadership and governance of an authority? Then this could be the position for you. The Swedish Customs is looking for a head of the management staff. With us, you will work in an exciting organization that contributes to creating a safe and secure society!

About the Position

As the head of the management staff, you are responsible for the leadership and governance of the management staff's operations, and you are accountable for achieving good results and practicing effective leadership. The head of the staff is also part of the management group of the Swedish Customs, and an important task is to manage overarching operational issues together with the other members of the management group.

Your main responsibilities include:

  • Accountability for the goals and results of the management staff and strategic responsibility for the leadership and governance of the operations, as well as overall budget and personnel responsibility.
  • Developing the operations and leading change initiatives.
  • Adapting the operations when new needs arise and prioritizing what is most important to do in the short and long term.
  • Having good awareness of the external environment and understanding how it affects the Swedish Customs' operations and acting accordingly.
  • Contacts with the Ministry of Finance on various issues.
  • Representing the authority in external contexts nationally and internationally.

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Experience in a managerial position and experience in leading and developing an organization with proven results.
  • Experience in a managerial position within the public sector, preferably within an authority, and thus have a good understanding of how an authority operates in terms of leadership, governance, organization, and follow-up.
  • A degree in political science, economics, law, or other education or experience that we deem relevant.
  • Leadership training.
  • Swedish citizenship.

It is meritorious if you have:

  • Experience in a similar position within an authority.
  • Experience in operational governance, annual reports, and operational analysis.
  • Experience in management group work.
  • Experience in international cooperation.
  • Experience in the operational area of the Swedish Customs.

You are accustomed to handling multiple cases simultaneously. You have a strong ability to develop both people and operations through a coaching and communicative leadership style, and you understand the importance of creating engagement and accountability among your employees. As a person, you have the courage to make decisions, are action-oriented, and drive towards set goals. You have a strategic perspective and a good overall view, and you can challenge yourself and others to stimulate innovation and change. You should be communicative, easy to collaborate with, and able to create contacts with others both within and outside the Swedish Customs.

The employment is a permanent position with individual salary setting. Within the Swedish Customs, fixed-term managerial appointments of 5 years are applied with the possibility of extension.

Start date: By agreement.

The position is classified in a security class, which means that a security review with a register check according to the Security Protection Act will be conducted before employment. The Swedish Customs is a total defense authority, and upon employment, you may be assigned to a military position within the Swedish Customs.
