Industrial Advisor at FMV in Washington DC

Do you have experience in the Swedish defense industry and international collaborations? Do you want to represent FMV and Sweden to U.S. authorities and equivalent functions from other countries in Washington? Then you might be the one we are looking for.

Swedish security and defense companies have seen significant growth in the U.S. over the past decade. This is due to an increased number of Swedish companies operating in the U.S., partnerships with American defense companies, and a continuously growing export. The strategic defense cooperation with the U.S. has become increasingly clear and important during the same period. Sweden's NATO membership has also created a focus and opportunities for Swedish defense companies at a level we have not seen before.

Responsibilities

As an Industrial Advisor at FMV, you will support and promote Swedish small and medium-sized defense companies and the defense industry's contacts with the U.S. You will represent FMV and Sweden to U.S. authorities and equivalent functions from other countries in Washington with the goal of ensuring that the governance and tools the agency has meet the laws, regulations, and external requirements imposed, as well as facilitating trade exchange. The work consists of supporting Swedish defense industry exports by representing Sweden and FMV to U.S. authorities and equivalent functions from other countries in Washington. The role also includes assisting the Defense Materiel Council in monitoring legislation and bilateral agreements.

The position is based in Washington DC, and you will serve as an envoy with diplomatic status. Currently, FMV's staffing at the embassy consists of a Defense Materiel Council and an Assistant Defense Materiel Council. In your role, you will assist and report to the Defense Materiel Council. Agreements on overseas contracts and guidelines for employment conditions, URA, will apply. Please read more here: URA Agreement on overseas contracts and guidelines for employment conditions when serving abroad (URA).

We are looking for

You have an academic degree or equivalent competence acquired in another way that we assess as equivalent.

You have experience working in or with Swedish defense companies where you have gained experience in business development methods within the defense sector. You have experience working in or with the U.S., and we consider it an advantage if you have good knowledge of Swedish small and medium-sized companies with export potential to the U.S. as well as an established network in industry or authorities in the U.S.

Experience in a government agency is meritorious, and it is also an advantage if you have experience working with the Inspectorate for Strategic Products (ISP) and/or experience working with compliance issues. We also believe that your experience with defense material regarding export control (Swedish export and U.S. regulations for cooperation with American industry) will be beneficial.

You have good knowledge of Swedish and English, both spoken and written.

We are looking for someone who easily builds trusting relationships while being self-driven and taking responsibility for their tasks. You are solution-oriented, have strategic and analytical thinking, and possess good collaboration skills, allowing you to adapt easily to situations and work with others.

We place great importance on personal qualities.
