It’s your first day at your new job. The car is parked, and you walk briskly towards the entrance. You feel both excited and a little nervous – how will this turn out? The building you are approaching looks a bit anonymous and unremarkable. A fairly common sight out here in Finnslätten, to be a bit blunt.

But the experience changes completely as soon as you step through the large doors! Suddenly, you are met by a whole world. In fact, the entire world is represented in this building. You are greeted with smiles and cheerful hellos, some are sitting in a comfortable sofa group having a morning meeting. People are meeting and chatting with each other, while others walk briskly by with laptops under their arms. There is a constant buzz, a vibrant workplace, and it is a fantastic international environment to be in.

The receptionist smiles and asks who you are here to see. You can hardly respond before your new manager Viktoria stands in front of you with a cheerful expression: “So nice that you are finally here! Welcome to us!”

Now Alstom is looking for its next Accounting Specialist!

If you are considering applying for the role, there are a couple of things we think are important for you to know and agree with. This is a team role. It suits you if you want to be part of a close-knit team where everyone enjoys working together. The space for solo artists is limited. Here, we believe in the strength of playing together and helping each other. The skill level is high, and the team is led by Viktoria, who is the Head of Accounting and Tax.

When we asked your future colleagues why one should apply for the role, they responded:

  • Marie: The atmosphere in the group! We have fun together. And with Viktoria as our manager, you feel secure and know that you will always get help from someone if needed.
  • Agnieszka: We enjoy each other’s company and support and encourage each other in both small and big matters. Simply the best colleagues! You also get the trust to drive improvements and develop how we work.

What does the role entail?

You might be used to working as an accounting specialist, or the Swedish term redovisningsspecialist, handling ongoing accounting and being involved in reporting when the company happens to be global? That is not the case at Alstom. The transactional part of the work is done at an internal Shared Service Center (SSC). And the reporting responsibility lies with another group at the office in Västerås. This means that you and your colleagues can focus on analyzing data and ensuring that the accounting is correct. That you follow the internal and external regulations. You also ensure that internal routines and processes are updated in accordance with changes in regulations and laws. Another important part of the role is to act as a business partner to different parts of the business; answering questions regarding accounting rules and, of course, assisting the SSC and reporting group in their work. You will truly become part of a specialist team!

Who are you?

In this role, personality and the desire to develop are important. You must of course have a degree in finance or equivalent. Practical experience in accounting or a few years in auditing. But you feel that you want to do more - you want to be in an organization where you can make a real impact. If your experiences are also from industrial operations, that is of course a plus.

Alstom is a global organization. Not only by being present around the world but also because different nationalities gather at the office in Västerås. Therefore, you need to be comfortable communicating, both verbally and in writing, in both Swedish and English.

We can list things that are good to have, but that is not the most important. What you don’t know, you will learn. Therefore, curiosity, initiative, and solution focus are much more important than knowing the specific system we work in or the regulations we follow. As part of a small local team and the large global company, social skills and willingness to collaborate are success factors. As an accountant, analytical ability, accuracy, and structure are somewhat of hygiene factors.

What do you get that is unique?

You will be part of an organization at the forefront of the global development towards more electrification and sustainable travel. As part of a locally competent team, you will collaborate with people from various professional groups and parts of the global organization. You will have the opportunity to develop in a strategic direction within your area with both local and global career paths.

Have we caught your interest?

In this recruitment, Alstom collaborates with Mpya Finance. Selection and interviews are ongoing, so please send in your application as soon as possible. Warm welcome with your application!
